What travellers are saying
- DadandCabCoffs Harbour, Australia1,302 contributionsThe castle has dominated the town for 800 years and continues to do so. A lot of investment in preservation, staircases and the addition of walkways means a visitor can get the feel of the castle, climb most of the towers and read the storyboards whilst not having a negative impact on the structure. Particularly hilarious in the story of how the Welsh tricked their way into the castle although the final result is more grisly. This is a must visit if in the area.Written 25 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ovidiu StefanDublin, Ireland719 contributionsA hidden gem in Conwy.Worth a visit to see how some people was leaving in Tudor's time while in this lovely little town in Wales.Written 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - J K107 contributionsWe went to the Smallest House in Britain after visiting Conwy Castle, and as you might expect, it was a brief, cramped experience.
We paid for our tickets on the spot and entered the building only to immediately be met with little room to stand, two is a crowd in such a tiny space. The crawlspace to the upper floor is very cramped and you'll be hard pressed to take photos in such a position. You also can't access the upper floor due to a protective barrier, so just as quickly as you come in, you'll be on your way out.
The history of the house is fascinating and it's neat to see a piece of quirky architecture that's largely been untouched for the last 100+ years, so for the very modest £1 price of admission I don't have much to moan about. If you're in Conwy during tourist season, it's worth a peek.Written 12 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. James was very very knowledgeable, answering all our questions with ease. It was a very pleasant experience. James is also offering ghost walks over the Halloween season. Enquiries can be made at the visitors centre across the road from Erskines Hotel.Written 29 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Somuchmessing40 contributionsGreat 360 deg views from the top. The mountain can be easily accessed from Conwy without the need for a car and can be incorporated in a number of walks. You could walk to Penmaenmawr and get the No.5 bus back to Conwy for example. It has one or two steep paths and sensible footwear should be worn not flip flops whilst clutching a take-away coffee! As a previous reviewer mentioned the mountain bikers can be a pain and churn up the paths. Also some dog owners will NOT keep their dogs on a leash which they are told to do due to livestock at certain times of the year. Plus some leave dog muck and their little filled doggy bags. On a more positive note the colours of the vegetation is beautiful and changes with the seasons. The bird life is interesting too. It is a lovely walk and gets you away from the crowds in Conwy.Written 17 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - A. AliManchester, UK191 contributionsLovely beach, nice and clean, some big pebbles as you first come down onto the sand but once you're down it's clean sand. Was a struggle to get our elderly mother inlaw down so we setup chairs on the side in the pebbled area. The only down side is people letting their dogs off to free roam but overall a afternoon out for the family.Written 25 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SarahJayneUnited Kingdom1,153 contributionsLovely part of conwy to sit and watch the world go by. Always lots going on, and plenty to see, or you can find a quiet place to sit and read your book, let the kids do some crabbing, or have a nice drink and watch the boats come in while you listen to some live music.Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Eileen108Mount Shasta, CA5,618 contributionsI stepped into this medieval church during a cruise ship excursion to the Conwy Castle, the special thing about this church is the leaflet with explanations of special things inside, we could follow along as we walked around and it made it so much more meaningful! Thank you for that, I referred to it even after coming home as I went through my photos.Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Liz P119 contributionsWhilst staying in Conwy I wanted to visit this church. We followed the sat nav which took us up some narrow, steep windy roads till we eventually parked up. You climb over a stile and walk up through a field. You then stumble across this beautiful church. It was beautiful up there, views were lovely and no one around. The church was open and we went inside to sit peacefully and reflect for 5 minutes. Definitely worth a visit.Written 14 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- fraj1Droitwich, UK258 contributionsLovely fish cakes just like my mum used to make! Fish pie was tasty but lacking in fish! - Mojoblue717Manchester, UK3,341 contributionsVisited this delightfully historic building, just before the National Trust closed everything down because of Covid-19. This is only a small site, situated in the centre of the town, occupying 2 floors, with the old cellar now used by the National Trust as their shop and entrance. It was midweek, the town was v quiet, and my wife & myself were the only people in the building, which was very pleasing, as it gave us more time to take in what is a most interesting structure, even better, we were accompanied by the site manager,Andy, who very helpfully gave us much info on the place and was only too happy to answer our many questions. The building was formerly a Medieval Merchants house built in the 15thC, initially with only a cellar and one floor, with another floor (The Great Loft), added some time later. Scientific study of the beams has confirmed the property as one of the oldest remaining houses in the whole of Wales. Later on the property became a Temperance Hotel, and in fact at one time was used as a meeting place for Suffragettes and a bedroom is displayed as it would have looked at that time. Much of the furnishings come from a myriad of old properties within Wales, not from the buildings roots, but still give a good feel about the place. As I reported earlier, you can get round in less than 45 minutes, but certainly if you are historically minded an excellent way to capture the feel of times gone by.
