What travellers are saying
- Elizabeth D5 contributionsSuch a beautiful house and gardens. We took our dog and she loved walking round the sculpture park and gardens, and me and the husband took turns viewing the house. Staff were all so nice and made the effort to chat and tell us interesting things about the place. We had tea and biscuits at the shed and was very good and decent price. Please note there is a charge on the car parkWritten 9 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Stacy CStafford, UK33 contributionsAn amazing place to visit, there's plenty to do. The area is clean and well maintained. Me and my husband enjoyed a walk along the canal as well as relaxing watching the swans on a bench. There are plenty of shops. A great day out.Written 10 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- sfmann106Colchester, UK923 contributionsStart from the canal basin and walk along the right hand bank (not always possible to be right next to the river!) but the streets along there are lovely. Past Holy Trinity church and down by the Lucy's Mill (small lane on left past HT church) and cross back over the river. If you turn right after crossing the river (good view of Lucy's Mill from the bridge) there is the brand new marina complex (still under construction when we visited). Retrace steps along this side of the river, towards town and take time to sit on a bench and watch boats go past. There is a weir near here, so boats mostly turn around and go back upriver, although some navigate the lock to carry on down river. Walk back to the town and cross back over Clopton bridge. Lovely way to spend a few hours.Written 23 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- TowniesLeedsLuluLeeds, UK291 contributionsWe only saw Hall's Croft from the open top bus which slowed down so we could get a good look. The gate looked closed though so don't know if you can go in anyway.Written 9 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tracey WCardiff, UK24 contributionsWe visited Shakespeare New Place in Autumn, but to get the most from the attraction I’d advise to you visit in the spring or summer to make the most of the garden.
New place no longer stands, instead it is laid to courtyard and formal gardens, best appreciated in fine weather.
However, you can visit Thomas Nash’s Tudor house adjoining, that was occupied by Shakespeare daughter.
The guides are very well versed in Shakespearean history, and they make the visit.

- Jamie H1 contributionA really amazing place to fish. Since being taken over you can see the new owner and baliff have been busy. Different lakes for all types of fishing.
The grounds are really well presented and the fact the owner and baliff come round often to talk adds to the experience.
A real unknown gem of a place.
If visiting please respect the fishery and owner. If not it won't be available.Written 4 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My 9 year old loves animals in general but reptiles especially. I had been looking for somewhere where he could meet and handle (and possibly feed) some of his favourite reptiles. Having Darren to ourselves for the hour makes it possible to do that and really learn even more about these incredible creatures. We got to meet and handle tarantulas, snakes, lizards, frogs, cockroaches and millipedes and fed some of the lizards. It was out first time having these experiences and we had such a good time. So much better than looking at these incredibles creatures through perspex in a zoo. Highly recommended.Written 12 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
