- Danny ELondon, UK54 contributionsCame here via a Groupon offer which was for 3 hours that included viewing the stables and an hours horse ride.
My daughter loved it, so much that we are hoping she start regular lessons there.Written 14 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In a nut-shell .... This has to rank as one of my all-time favorites.
The background: My daughter and I travelled to London just before Christmas to visit family; they suggested that I contact Hyde Park Stables and book a ride. We arrived at the Stables our first morning in London, jet lagged and weary... but what a way to start our trip. It was magical - arriving at the Mews to find beautiful, well-cared for horses tucked away in cozy stalls decorated for the season. Donning our helmets and boots (provided by the Stables) and settling into a very comfortable english saddle aboard my mount, Charlie. Then riding through cobblestoned streets to Hyde Park, trotting down "Rotten Row," watching the hum and buzz of my favorite city from the back of an exceptionally kind and well-trained Irish Cob. I thoroughly enjoyed our delightful guide, Ryan (and his guide horse, Inca). Ryan was knowledgeable on the history and horses, and just generally an awesome fun person! My daughter (16) rode the grey horse named Smartie... I think the two of them smiled the whole time!
This ride is absolutely accessible to anyone who is physically able to sit on a walking horse. While my daughter and I are both very experienced riders, our brother joined us and he has never ridden. We all felt comfortable and completely safe. These horses are exceptionally well cared for and trained. They know their jobs and take great care of their riders and enjoy what they do. I had zero concerns.
In a city that offers countless unforgettable experiences, this has to be one of the absolute best. Don't miss this - it's worth every penny (or pound)!!!Written 26 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Melissa MBromley, UK171 contributionsI booked this for my friends hen do and everything about it was great.
The communication beforehand was excellent, I had lots of questions and changed my mind about dates and numbers a few times but they were very nice about it.
When we got there all the staff were very patient and friendly, as a lot of the group were new to horse riding and really quite nervous but the horses and staff were fantastic.
They put on a little lunch and drinks after the morning of riding, which is lovely. Most of our group were vegans and vegetarians but we were catered for exceptionally well!
Would definitely go here again and would recommend it to anyone.Written 17 August 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I am writing this review with deep disappointment and concern following a very distressing experience at Newham Riding School on 21st August 2024. My daughter was involved in an accident during her horse riding lesson, which could have been entirely avoided had the riding school followed proper safety protocols.
During the lesson, my daughter fell off the horse when it started trotting. It was immediately evident that the fall was not just a simple accident; the saddle was not properly secured, and no safety checks had been carried out before the lesson began. It was clear that the staff, including the volunteers walking with the horses, were not fully trained. Their lack of training and attention to detail put my daughter and others at serious risk.
When my daughter fell, she landed hard and was screaming in agony, unable to feel her legs and complaining of severe back pain. It was later confirmed that she suffered a broken foot and injuries to her shoulder, leaving her in significant pain and unable to continue with her usual activities. Shockingly, the staff were more concerned about securing the saddle and ensuring the horse was safe, rather than attending to my injured daughter lying on the ground. There was an utter lack of urgency and concern for her well-being, which was truly appalling.
We had to repeatedly raise our voices to get any kind of assistance, and it was only when other parents began helping that we finally received some attention. Incredibly, there was no first aider on-site, and it took 15-20 minutes before one finally arrived. By that time, the situation had already caused my daughter significant distress and prolonged pain.
When we questioned the staff about the lack of safety checks and pointed out that this was not a normal fall, their response was completely dismissive. I was told, “Well, when you signed up for the lessons, you signed a form saying it’s not our responsibility.” This response was infuriating and insensitive, especially given the clear negligence on their part regarding safety protocols.
Since the incident, I have tried numerous times to contact Newham Riding School to request a copy of the accident form, but they have repeatedly ignored my emails and texts. Their lack of communication and accountability is appalling, especially given the severity of my daughter’s injuries. It feels like they are trying to avoid taking any responsibility for their actions, and their complete disregard for our requests adds insult to injury.
It was evident that the staff were more concerned with protecting themselves from liability rather than taking responsibility for their errors. They were running around trying to cover up their failures rather than focusing on providing the care and assistance that was needed.
Overall, I am deeply disappointed and appalled by the way Newham Riding School handled this situation. Their lack of safety checks, untrained staff, absence of immediate medical assistance, complete disregard for my daughter’s welfare, and refusal to respond to our communications make this place incredibly unsafe. I urge anyone considering lessons here to think twice, as this establishment clearly does not prioritize the safety and well-being of its riders.Written 4 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They are really good if you are a complete beginner as you have someone leading your horse and is there with you the whole time. In the lessons you try out walking and sitting and rising trots.
All staff are nice and usually friendly. However, some are not that social and won't even talk to you for the whole length of the lesson. If you get a good leader, they will check on you and give you extra tips. The lesson instructors usually give personal feedback to everyone in the lesson and will push you further in order to see you get better which is amazing!
But if you get to a certain point when you can walk and comfortably trot with the leader, I advise you get a private lesson as you won't be able to improve that much in the have a go lessons.
I had a private lesson with Darren yesterday and it was great! Luckily I had the last have a go with him as well so he knew my level and was able to get straight to what I had to work on. He will make you work in the lesson but you definitely get your money's worth!
The only downside I found is that it is really hard to get through to them over the phone. Although they will give you a call back on the same day, they called me at a really inconvenient time but I had to take it as then you are not sure when they would try again, if at all! I understand they are busy before lessons, trying to get everyone prepped, but turns out some of the receptionist also just don't like to sit behind the desk and go off to chat to other staff and ignore the phone calls as they come in.Written 7 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Under the Westway interchange of the A40 and Shepherds Bush Cross-link, and just 10 minute cab ride from Paddington, is the Westway Stables. The yard may not be the prettiest (the ground and buildings are the Landlord's responsibility} but the twenty or so animals are well cared for, and the floodlit menage arena is highly serviceable, whist the teaching is superb. The operation is especially suited for children from 4 years and up, and with inclusivity high on its agenda, tailor-made tuition is offered to people with all manner of disabilities. In addition to arena work, on road lessons are held through the urban side streets and hacking is possible. The ethos is to be friendly, down to earth. being ideal for entry level without airs and graces, but high on safety with ease of access to the sport at affordable rates. The yard will loan you boots and hats, and you can choose between school or private lessons. It is not fancy, it doesn't try to be, but it does achieve results and works with you to meet your needs. Oh yes, the stock have largely been bred by the yard, and they are sound and traffic-proof. - Matilda H1 contributionI am an enthusiastic rider who has weekly lessons at Ealing Riding School. I love my instructor Lou who has given me so many amazing tips helping me with experiences in my lessons and elsewhere. The ponies can be amazing but I find there is usually something frustrating about them, like they bite, they are lazy, they don't like the right rein. Adding to this, I recently went on a riding trip in Spain and learnt to jump in canter. Returning to Ealing I shared this news with them and a video to let them know about my standard. I was hoping to continue jumping there but it has been many weeks and we still have stuck to walk, trot and canter. This is incredibly frustrating as I want to progress and this is not allowing me to use my full potential. Overall, I think they are a nice stables with some really amazing horses, it's just not a place where you get challenged the most.Written 6 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ross Snell2 contributionsTerrible business to deal with. DON'T Trust this company with your money. We are having a Horrendous experience with our booking for June this year booked back in July 22. We are a group booking of 44 spending in excess of £22k on this trip. The initial agent Max Yearwood agreed all the details for a visit to France staying in one location and visiting 4 courses, 2 at Hardelot, Belle Dunne and Aa Saint-Omer all with agreed 10am tee times due to the amount of players needing to get out on the course and then travel back and forth from the hotel. After literally months of continuous chasing for confirmation of details etc our group organiser was told they couldn't secure early tee times as agreed and that we needed to take late tee times or chose another location.
The suggested other locations in Spain have been exceedingly higher in cost and not viable for the group and the later tee times offered would cause significant travel issues. Our organiser suggested the option of staying in the UK but again Your Golf Travel have said there in no UK availability.
Having no other option it was suggested that we will have to consider cancellation of the booking but Your Golf Travel is now saying that although they can't deliver what has been agreed cancellation would result in a loss of our deposits £4,400.
No agents ever seem to be available to speak to or reply to emails. Our organiser has had to resort to contacting staff at Your Golf Travel through linkedin in order to try and get responses or escalation of the issue, it's terrible the service.Written 5 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
