- John D1 contributionFantastic Experience. Extremely informed tour guide with phenomenal food. Our tour was about 3 hours long, but felt far shorter than that. We had multiple people with food allergies and they accommodated them perfectly in multiple restaurants, with actual substitutions, and did not just tell them "sorry you can't eat anything here." The food was absolutely phenomenal, with plenty to go around so nobody went hungry. We were certainly not disappointed even though the Cruise side was cancelled due to the river being in flood. The cruise side was credited to our bar bill. They accommodated our request to move tables and offered us complimentary wine with our delicious 4-course meal. The beef was a tad overdone but the rest were scrumptious and the dessert was divine. Sadly it was raining during lunch so I can't speak much to the views from the bus but totally enjoyed the ride. A well spent 2 hours. Some are good and some, well, as my HR friends would say, have several areas of opportunity.
This is a good food tour!
Dave, our guide, was outgoing and quite fun simply to hang out with. Even though the other signed up for our tour backed out at the last minutes, and it was just my wife and me on the tour, Dave handled it with grace, professionalism and a bit of self-deprecating humor. And we were off.
His deep sonorous voice, elegant vocabulary and theater background, created the perfect pairing with the restaurant we visited and food and drink we tried.
Providing just enough history and background of the SOHO area to make it interesting while not becoming pedantic, Dave allowed us to focus on the food and drink when the time came to do so.
The food and drink itself were quite lovely. From the bao in China Town, the farm to table food and wine from the English countryside at Sussex, the interesting dishes and cocktail at the Indian restaurant Gunpowder, the odd dishes and cocktail at Burmese restaurant Lahore, and finally a fun dessert and drink at a downstairs speakeasy, the entire evening was pleasant and one we will cherish as part of our visit to London.

Obi gave a complete historical perspective of Brixton and its settlement and residents, especially those who have been displaced. After his opening presentation, we walked through the market where Obi had preselected food stops with excellent, authentic, delicious African and Caribbean food as appetizers before arriving at our main dining location.
Our main restaurant served plenty of traditional Jamaican food, including dessert, that feed our souls. Obi's personality is upbeat, infectious and caring. His viewpoint is enthusiastic, realistic, and optimistic. He intentionally drew all the members of the tour together by asking them to introduce and share about themselves to create an opportunity to bond.

While we weren't keen on fish/seafood, it was still nice to stop by the one fish establishment on the tour. Our favorite foods were the Scotch egg and cardamom bun. Our favorite stop was the Charles Dickens pub! Very gloomy (in a good way). We also appreciated that at each stop, the owners/managers were very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see the tour come in.
