What travellers are saying
- sillyjilly31Southport, United Kingdom128 contributionsWhen we first set eyes on this impressive building as we approached from Castle Square through the arches, we were blown away. The architecture is amazing. Well worth the entrance fee of £12 (which includes a yearly pass)
We visited at 1pm on Friday 14th March & on arrival, we were asked if we’d like the guided tour, (free of charge & all run by volunteers) normally we’d just wander around on our own, but we agreed to take the tour & were so glad we did. David (ex RN) was a fabulous guide, full of knowledge & information. There was just me & the hubby for most of the time so it felt like a private tour. We learnt so much about the Cathedral’s history which we wouldn’t have known about without David telling us. He even pointed out the famous Lincoln Imp high up in one of the pillars which we would never have spotted. (We learnt from David that the pillars are actually called Piers!)
The tour lasted over an hour & we were intrigued the whole time, seeing parts of the cathedral you would not normally see without the guide.
There is also a roof & a tower tour at an additional cost, which we never did on the day as we ran out of time!
There is a huge cafe & gift shop in the grounds with a vast array of goods. We only had a coffee in the cafe but the food looked delicious.
All in all, I would definitely visit this magnificent Cathedral & highly recommend taking the guide tour.Written 24 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can wander around the grounds & exterior for free, but to walk the castle walls & see the interior including the Victorian prison you need to pay.
We decided to go with the (free) guided tour at 1pm which was quite busy. Our guide called Martin was very informative & kept the tour fun with lots of facts & history. Tour lasted around an hour but it flew over as Martin kept the chat flowing & made it interesting.
The Victorian prison is great too, lots to get around & good to read about the various crimes & punishment of that time.
There are dress up areas for children (& adults) to try out the Victorian era.
You can visit the cells, the exercise yard & the Governor & Gaolers rooms.
One of the best parts of our visit was the Magna Carta vault where we could see one of only 4 original documents.
The guide in the vault was also very well informed & explained a lot of the history & origin of the Magna Carta. There is also a short film on arrival to explain the significance too. All well worth a visit.Written 24 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. What an amazing place. This is a fitting memorial that was long overdue to these brave men & women.
Barry Steele was the guide who took us around the outdoor area & he was brilliant. Highly recommend him. He kept us enthralled with his knowledge and information about the missions, the people & he had some amusing stories to tell too, about particular heroes & characters during the war - we loved the story of Antis the German Shepherd.
He spent a good hour walking us around & we learnt a lot more that we would have done wandering around on our own.
The exhibition is full of mementos from aircrew, information & slideshows. We watched a 10 minute film that really gave you an experience of how it must have been for the pilots sent out on the missions.
The cafe is well stocked with a variety of hot & cold food & there is a gift shop.
Definitely worth a visit to this centre to learn more about Bomber Command.Written 24 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But it can be hard on the knees walking up and down Steep Hill as the name suggests, it’s seriously steep in places. But what a great range of independent shops, cafes, and sights as you walk on this historic thoroughfare. At the top are Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle, two outstanding historic sites, two of my favourite spots along with the Eco Pantry zero waste treats, the Rest Hotel for a coffee and sourdough toast, and the Cardinal’s Hat for a drink. There are also some lovely shops with unusual homewares, a bookshop toy model shop.Written 23 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - colinb956Billingshurst, UK25 contributionsFantastic museum, could not believe how much was in there. All aspects of bygone life are shown, a great history of Lincolnshire regiments through the ages, and the vehicle/farm equipment etc area is huge, and of course the WW1 tank is in pride of place. I didn't realise how much industry took place in Lincolnshire, so I for one came out with some new knowledge. Highly recommended, and even better, it's free admission.Written 19 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KJH1612Gloucestershire, United Kingdom6 contributionsFriends recommended this free tour of Lincoln Guildhall/Stonebow Gate. We were so pleased we followed their recommendation.
Our guide Andrew was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the Lincoln and the building itself. Although adapted over the centuries, it has been in continual use since 211 when it marked the southern gate of the lower Roman city. The building still houses the civic chambers, ancient city charters and swords from Richard II and Henry VII.

She said my mistake £25, still thought it was dear tbh, but how to make a £10 mistake, what id people don't realise it question it....
Anyway granddaughter liked the touching of the smaller animals and seeing some characters whilst walking about made her smile, the place is Vast and quite alot to it Inc indoor and outdoor animals to see and feed plenty of outdoor toys to play on as well, they have an eaterie and i found out I should of taken a picnic, 3 fish fingers chips and a drink for me £10!!Written 4 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nic ward7 contributionsWent here for the first time last night - what a beautiful old venue.
Everything, from the booking to finding parking was easy, and the staff were lovely, so helpful & friendly.
The theatre is an old traditional one, and as such is a seated venue so you're only allowed to get up & dance during the encore.
The seats are very tight on leg room. This wasn't a problem for me as I'm only 5'1, but my partner was quite uncomfortable & it doesn't make it easy when people need to get past you to get to their seat.
That said, it was a fabulous evening, the musicians were brilliant, the sound was good, and we thoroughly enjoyed the show - took us right back to our teenage years!Written 25 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
