He had researched the Regiment my grandfather had served in and tailored the tour to show us all the relevant memorials and landmarks as well as the wider perspective of the Somme and Cambrai battlefields.
Each day Ian took us to battlefield sites, cemeteries, memorials and much more with his in depth knowledge of each of the battlefields.

There is a great little on-site cafe selling tea, coffee, snacks, cakes etc - all reasonable prices and a shop which had some fab gifts, toys and children’s books for it’s size.
Well worth every penny of the admission price, the view of the hills refreshes your very soul.

The gentleman on duty when we were there had some very fascinating insights into its preservation and storage, as well as the map itself and wider medieval views of the world.
Made before the great european voyages of discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries so a mediterranean-centric view of things is only to be expected!

Despite the touch and go weather, Chris and Dennis our guides kept in constant touch with the 'ground team' to check for a break in the weather so we could get to the top and enjoy a spectacular view of the city ....

Good catering on site, though we took a picnic with us, and the price is very reasonable.
There is plenty of free parking on site.

It's like turning back the clock centuries and provides an excellent view towards St Michaels and All Angels church at the top end.

A large castle that is perfect for children to adventure in, set in beautiful raised position above the wye and with great views toward Symonds Yat, highly highly recommend (lovely cafe as well)
Roaring Meg, the chapel window's, the view from the top of the keep, the impressive moat, the great staff both at the reception/cafe, and those in the castle made this visit great.

We had a lovely morning here, really nice, welcoming staff, amazing house and grounds to walk around with great views, fascinating bit of history, also picked loads of damsons to make damson gin and jam (£2.50 per...
Fabulous Manor house, the beautiful moat and gentle gardens, wonderful brick out housing, shop, little cafe and swallows to view as they swoop in and out of their nests.

We always stop off here for a bowl of the excellent home made soup served with delightful home made bread and served with a portion of the cheese made on site.
The cheese itself made on site is beautiful and if you can leave without purchasing anything then well done!

... of the outdoor space (check online about closures/events such as animal encounters) The river walk and up through the wooded was lovely with spots perfect for picnics and benches along the way with lovely views.
The gardens are spectacular and there is maze with a Gothic tower in the centre that you can climb to the top of for an amazing panoramic view.

The excellent tea-room / cafe; the enchanting woodland walks; the stunning views from the top of the escarpment and the huge variety of vistas make the grounds a pleasure to walk on any day.
Lovely National trust site, plenty to see, lovely setting and gorgeous views.

Well worth a visit, just for the church, the views across Herefordshire, with the castle as a valuable bonus.
Church architecture fans can step back in time and view an untouched 3 bay Norman church.
Berrington Hall Hereford
#14 of 56 Sights & Landmarks in Herefordshire
Exquisite Adamesque interiors (sorry, I am an incorrigible neo-classist) in a wonderful natural setting with delightful views of the Welsh marches set out beautifully by Capability Brown; his last masterpiece.
Each room is a delight to view, the pleasure enhanced by extremely knowledgeable guides, one of whom welcomes visitors and does a good briefing for anyone who hasn't visited previously.

The boys loved the facilities on site and spent most of their days out on the river canoeing and swimming, Whilst I engaged in some much needed R&R reading and gazing out at the most incredible view's.
We always cross this bridge given a choice, as its delightful, and a lovely view of the river.

Interesting site to visit, very different.
Arthur's Stone Dorstone
#20 of 56 Sights & Landmarks in Herefordshire
Arthur's Stone is the remains of a pre-historic burial chamber, located well off the beaten trail (along pot-holled roads) a real hidden pre-historic gem on a high hill side with stunning valley views.
After a brisk walk up a hill full of fields of sheep is a chance to stand on the stone and explore the view. The way we did it you can then go on to another village on footpaths if you want.

The Prospect with stunning views across the countryside, provides a peaceful, tranquil space in which to sit and relax or maybe read that holiday novel.
A religious site for more than 700 years, St Mary's is both a centre for Christian worship, and quite literally a focal point for this lovely town.

As soon as we arrived, we were given the most wonderful welcome by the friendliest & loveliest dog in the world, followed by a short but useful historical account of the site by the owner.
There are also sign boards around the site.

Every time we have been to Hereford it has been impossible to get a good look at this statue but on this visit we were lucky to be able to enjoy it without other people blocking our view.
