My wife and I decided to take the Devonport Ferry from the ferry terminal downtown ($6 NZ each way, 12 minute ride in a large tour boat). At Devonport, you climb up the hill (0.75 miles each way, 20-30 minutes to climb up) and enjoy spectacular views of the territory around Auckland. The ferry does accept the HOP cards so you can just put extra money on your card ($12 roundtrip).

Torpedo Navy Museum entry costs NZD10 for foreigners, free for citizens. The lady at the ticketing counter was nice, walked out of the counter to orientate me before i started walking around the Museum.

Spent around 1 hour in the museum reading how New Zealand Navy worked, participated in missions, and women contributing in the Navy.

We arrived at closing timing, but the volunteers there, opened up for us and we had a great hour walking around with our own personal guide. It’s quirky, loads of local stuff a church they moved down the hill. Go and visit it for an hour.

They generally get 20 visitors a day

For uninterrupted views of the skyline of Auckland, we decided to visit Cyril Bassett lookout. Great views but the best thing about this lookout was the fact that it was quiet. We were there for about 30min and the whole time we were the only ones there.

It is a very basic lookout with 2 park benches and the location is nestled among residential houses and no parking (other than street parking) which is understandable as it is a residential area and not a touristy gathering point.

Just outside the Devonport Library is the memorial featuring a soldier sometimes referred to as "untidy" and noted for its informality and realism. It is just a couple of hundred metres from the ferry dock.

The Reserve is next to the beach, just a short walk from the ferry terminal. The playground equipment even suits older children and the location is close to everything. The Library is across the road and food shops are nearby.

Bath Street is a short road that leads to Cheltenham Beach. The reserve has play equipment and drinking water and there is a boat ramp at the end of the street. Rangitoto Island is ahead across the water. It is a beautiful location.

The Mt Cambrai Reserve was originally another of the volcanic cones near Devonport. It has been quarried, but still is impressive, with large areas of grassland and some interesting vegetation. It can be accessed from Vauxhall Raod (Museum site) and from Church Street. The paths can be steep and many people walk dogs through here.

I came in to be out of the weather and then marveled at all the features. It is in some parkland with very old trees; it has the statue of the Untidy Soldier out front; and it has memories of the famous cat who lived here. Although the cat door is still present, the cat has died, leaving only a painted portrait behind.

Situated in the Domain, which itself is just a large grassy area, is an interesting little fenced playground close to the beach.

After trying some of their chocolate where I was staying I went to their shop in Devonport. Beautiful handmade chocolate...something for all tastes. Liked that you can make up your own gift boxes.

What an awesome experience! The team were so knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Sasha ran a wonderful workshop and assisted in creating a beautiful unique fragrance which I love! Well worth the very affordable cost. A must do while in queenstown.
