What travellers are saying
- DelhifundosNew Delhi, India668 contributionsSree Ramaswami Temple in Thalassery is a serene and spiritually uplifting place. From the moment we arrived, the tranquil ambiance set the tone for a divine experience.
We began by washing ourselves in the majestic temple tank, changing into traditional veshtis before entering the shrine. Visiting in the early evening added a magical touch—the glow of huge brass fire lamps illuminated the deity, beautifully anointed with sandalwood paste. There was no artificial lighting, only the flicker of oil lamps on the outer walls, which gave the entire temple a surreal and calming energy.
Photography wasn’t allowed inside, but the experience was beyond words. The peaceful atmosphere and vibrant energy made it an unforgettable visit. Highly recommend this temple for anyone seeking spiritual solace in Thalassery.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Built by the British in the 18th century, this fort exudes a unique charm and offers breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea.
The entryway through two narrow sets of steps adds an exclusive touch, allowing only a few visitors at a time. Though the fort is relatively small, its pathways are intriguing and lead to fascinating discoveries. A highlight for us was the elevated courtyard featuring a lighthouse, once a beacon for ships at sea.
We also came across a mysterious underground tunnel door, unfortunately closed to tourists but still quite intriguing. The fort’s lawn, adorned with a cannon from the British era, makes for a great photo spot!
Unlike the grand forts of Jaipur or Udaipur, Thalassery Fort has its own quaint and understated appeal. It’s a hidden gem that pleasantly surprised us with its historical significance and charm.
Would highly recommend it to history enthusiasts or anyone looking for an offbeat destination!Written 25 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ajapetrusMahe, India832 contributionsHoly Rosary Church, also known as St. Rosario Church, is said to be one of the ancient churches in Kerala, belonging to the Roman (Latin) Catholic faith. Situated adjacent to the Thalasseri Fort, along its Northwest, towards the sea, the church attracts visitors due to its historical significance and architectural marvel with unique stained glass works brought from London. Established in the early 16th century, the church was originally under the administration of the Archbishop of Goa. At present, the church belongs to the Diocese of Kannur after the bifurcation of the Diocese of Calicut on 5th November 1998.
The Brennen Cemetery adjacent to the church, in which many noted colonial officials take their final rest, as well as the Thalasseri Fort attracts tourists and history lovers.
In fact, the profile photo of the church in the TripAdvisor and all the three photos available to date are those of the Thalasseri Fort and not St. Rosario church. The church is exactly behind the ramparts of the lighthouse quarter of the fort (North-western side of the fort), as can be seen from a photo uploaded here.Written 30 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It gives you a lot of confidence and fulfilment. .
My experience is that whatever you ask and it will be fulfilled. Temple is about 3 km from Thalassery town. Very easy to reach. It is close to Thalassery cooperative Hospital. Temple is located just next to the meeting point of Arabian sea and local river. The view from the temple is really beautiful and serene.
