It’s interesting some reviewers have commented it’s nothing compared to Niagara Falls. Welllllll obviously. You’re comparing apples and oranges. I can appreciate people don’t want to deal with hoards of tourists though - we encountered maybe a dozen other people while there and have been quite grateful not to experience Jasper during high season. It was cool to learn about how the land and water have changed over time. We thought this might be especially enjoyable for people who aren’t hardcore into the outdoors: the path is paved with steps in some areas so you don’t need hiking shoes. There are some uneven parts due to incorporating the natural rocks with the path. It has easy access from the road as well.
Hot tip: if you despise getting swallowed up by throngs of tourists, don’t travel to a tourist town during the busy season.

Forget the expensive guided tour options -- just drive up to 'Bridge 6' and do the trail up to the cafe/restaurant at the top near bridge 1 and back again. Very spectacular and not very hard. Takes about 1.5 hours each way.

Courteous staff and a very smooth ride to the upper station made this a great outing. We experienced several seasons in a couple of hours beginning with an overcast day that turned to a whiteout at the top and then the sky’s cleared for great views.

We hiked the Pyramid lake trails (2, 2b, etc) and found them fairly well maintained even in winter. Microspikes recommended, snowshoes are ok but not really necessary in most places. Red chairs open to sit in. There are a lot of fallen trees though due to the pine deaths in the Jasper area, be prepared to go over some logs.

THE SKIING WAS FANTASTIC AND NO CROWDS. Was up at Marmot Basin for five days which included a weekend seminar on skiing. The conditions were like mid winter with all runs and lifts open! Grooming on selected runs was second to none. Great choice of terrain as always with bumps on 'blue to black to double black' on all parts of the area. Ski right on to lifts with no lineups. They have one final week with May 1st being the closing day ending a fantastic season. Get up and enjoy some great skiing and riding.

A challenging hike for those who want to take the shortcut, very steep incline for 1.3km (ish) but well worth the uphill push.

We initially opted to take the slightly longer route and had to turn back due to a large male grizzly bear snacking away at the side of the trail!

What an amazing sight and the views from the top were incredible! well worth a hike and one of my favourites in Jasper!

Though you definitely need ice cleats! We did the long route (4KM around) and on the way down toward the stairs, the trail became even a bit too icy for those wearing ice cleats, so we went back out the way we came. Though the views and experience were fabulous.

Hire a car and stop off where you like. A wonderful road trip with lots of places to see. You really need the whole day and to try to avoid the coaches!
    The scenery is just gorgeous.

We hiked Opal Hills by Maligne Lake May 13 and there was still lots of snow, but we went in early am and it was crusted over so you could manage fine with just cleats. (You have to trek across the snow bound parking section that isn't plowed to reach the trail head.)

Go into this thinking that it's really steep and you'll be fine. It's pretty steep! And in the trees most of the way. We didn't do the loop due to avalanche risk, instead we went up to the lake lookout point 650m total elevation gain and back the same way. Take right trail fork. Lots of moose/elk tracks, also possibly wolf tracks as there are no dogs allowed (much larger than coyote prints.) Spectacular views on a clear day. No one else seen on trail on a Friday morning.

Would also like to see it in a summer setting as well.

Beautiful nature encounter; started with the Discovery trail around Jasper and ended doing Mina Lakes. Right in bear land (did not encounter any!), but saw dear and just enjoyed this beauty around town trails

Our Native Land has a wonderful selection of authentic Canadian gifts and art as well as jewelry. The prices vary from $5 to over $5000 but there’s definitely something for everyone. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We visit this store every time we visit Jasper and always enjoy seeing new things each time.
