- Jason G5 contributionsAccess from Red Hook is about 10 minutes by car. Parking with 4 people was $30, $7 each person and $2 for the car. Beach had plenty of room even on a very heavy cruise ship docking day. Water and beach were beautiful, calm and clean. Sand was soft and great for castle making, our 19yr old still loves making castles. Just off the beach you can find sandy bottom or sea grass. About 75 yards off the beach is a beautiful coral ridge that breaks the waves. Amazing varied coral and sea life. In the grassy area between the beach and the reef we saw multiple groups of sea turtles. I saw 5 in just a few minutes snorkeling. I also saw my first spotted ray. Amazingly graceful creature with its friendly fish in toe. When facing the water from the beach, to the right side, the water out to the reef is less than 8 feet deep. Most places closer to 4 or 5 feet deep. This is a great beach with fine sand, shade, easy access to reasonable snorkeling as well as a good beach bar. Ocean tubing, beach service for drinks and food, parasailing, souvenir shops and gorgeous water. An additional advantage of Coki Divers is that you walk in from the beach, so they do not need much of a minimum number of divers to run a dive. I was a solo diver looking for a PM dive during a time after the December holiday season when it gets quieter on St Thomas and many dive outfits were not running PM dives. Coki had great communication over the phone, email, and text and they continued to run my dive, despite being the only diver that afternoon. It was just me and the dive master and it worked out great.
Also notable and admirable is a night dive I signed up for a few days later. The water conditions were poor for the night dive ( swells causing poor visability). Coki canceled the dive and refunded the cost rather than force running the dive in poor conditions. But Joey kept a close eye on who left, and within about 10 minutes he texted we had a chair set available. Great service. Wonder boat, wonder captain, wonder tour of interesting places on the island, while getting a unique "from the water" view of things. - Kelly L3 contributionsJust spent another great day on the water with Charlie Whitmore! Since Charlie unfortunately lost Simplicity to the storm, we mixed it up and had a great time on the Mojo Deux with Capt. Scott Schroeder (Aqua Blue Charters). As always, Charlie is great company on the island. He always knows what’s going on in the USVI so it’s always great to catch up while we make our way to snorkel stops. This time, we cruised up the north side and snorkeled Maho. We told Charlie and Capt. Scotty we wanted to see some turtles and they delivered! Then it was off to Leinster before heading to Pizza Pi for lunch. We had to insist that Charlie and Scotty grab some pizza. Eventually they caved! (Who can resist delicious Pizza Pi!?). After lunch we snorkeled the area nearby Christmas cove which was great! Then, always trying to make sure we are doing what we want, Charlie gave us the option of a beach or another snorkel. We opted for beach and again it was great to discuss the islands with Charlie and Scotty while the beach goers had their fun. The reefs are active, the water is beautiful, we only wished we had more time to spend in the USVI before moving on. There were turtles, rays, hundreds of fish and all kinds of other beautiful wildlife to see (all of which Charlie can fill you in on). We always look forward to sailing with Charlie because he is such a great and knowledgeable host! We’ve lost count how many charters we have done with him, which speaks for itself. Every time I bring someone new along with Charlie, they go on and on about what an amazing day it was!
