The gardens are beautiful. The tour of these gardens are done with a guide (who work for tips). Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the plants. Although, he seemed almost robotic and rushed in the way he described everything. Probably because he's done the tour many, many times before. While walking around, we saw other people enjoying the gardens without a guide. Going at their leisure. Which made me wonder how that came about, since I felt we were somewhat rushed through. Perhaps they stayed after their guide left? Perhaps they had been there before and requested not to have a guide? I don't know. Had this not been the last stop on our taxi tour for the day and we were tired and still had a 1.5 hour drive back to our hotel, I may have asked if we could spend more time. We ready to get back to the hotel and hit the pool.

Lots and lots of different plants to see as you wander about the gardens. The place had been left unattended for many years and looks uncared for in places, but it's slowly being redeveloped. It can be a bit painstaking having to look up the plants by the numbers shown on them - it would better if the plants were labelled in situ. And. of course, there's a small cafe and shop where you can have a glass of the ubiquitous rum punch - is there anywhere in the Caribbean where this doesn't occur? - and a piece of cake. A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

Easy walking. Many, many flower, shrub, and tree varieties. Several birds flitting around as well. Not a huge area.
We did have a guide, Alexander who was absolutey full of knowledge - so much so to be almost overpowering at times. But he did have a sense of humour as well. The Diamond Falls are at the far end which are another attraction. We gave the mineral baths a miss. All in all a very enjoyable visit.

Just across the street from the Beacon Restaurant, the Maranatha Gardens Prayer Sanctuary is small, but quite lovely. Lots of tropical flowering plants, ferns, and birds. The visit doesn't take long; and it's very rewarding to visit. The cries of the birds; the color of the splendid flowers; the foliage of the rain forest; all very inspiring.

When at the Restaurant, take a few minutes to cross the highway and visit the gardens. Enjoy!
