Beautiful spot to watch the sunset, incredible photo opportunities, and so fun to drive back out of park at dusk and stop at trails/boulders along way.
While a bit of a detour off of the main park road, Keys View offers stunning vistas of the Coachella Valley, The desert cities unfold in front of you and you can see south all the way to the Salton Sea.

It's a very easy trail to walk, climb, explore, visit and coexist with Mother Nature.
Very good nature trail in Joshua Tree national park, about 1.5 miles long and reasonably flat terrain.

Along the road from 29 Palms to Cottonwood within the Joshua Tree National Park is a unique forest of the Cholla Cactus, AKA Jumping Cactus, AKA Teddy Bear Cactus.
We spent about an hour here - loved the rugged beauty of the cactus - the setting and the fact that from a ditance the cactus look kind of furry such is the nature of their thin spikes.

Unlike many walks in the park, this walk does have a little elevation, about 90 vertical metres (295 feet), so there is a little work to be done, but it is worth it.
You can technically access this trail without paying admission to Joshua Tree, but if you are coming to the park for the first time, it's well worth it to drive through the rest of the park.

I recommend Cottonwood Springs Oasis, and the fuller walk up through the area in the Spring when the wildflowers are popping, the rangers are about to give nature talks on the trail, and the weather is inviting.
