We were lucky to hit the park on a day with good visibility (a ranger told us that sometimes it can be very hazy), and in one direction particularly, it reminded us of one of the extraordinary landscapes we viewed...

Cholla Cactus Garden

Along the road from 29 Palms to Cottonwood within the Joshua Tree National Park is a unique forest of the Cholla Cactus, AKA Jumping Cactus, AKA Teddy Bear Cactus.
We spent about an hour here - loved the rugged beauty of the cactus - the setting and the fact that from a ditance the cactus look kind of furry such is the nature of their thin spikes.

There is a reason why Joshua tree was elevated to National Park status a few years ago...it is spectacular!! Make sure you visit the ranger station at the west park entrance for maps and infor.

This area in the park was wonderful - the rocks are just incredible and we spent the time finding faces and skulls all around the trail!
This is one of the easier trail to hike, you can even park your giant mobile home right next/near to the trail.

Every time we go to Joshua tree national Park we always go to Split rock to take photographs and watch the sun go down. .
We just stopped at various formations and walked and climbed for a different view of nature.

I recommend Cottonwood Springs Oasis, and the fuller walk up through the area in the Spring when the wildflowers are popping, the rangers are about to give nature talks on the trail, and the weather is inviting.
