Please, take the long trip, it is about three hours of history, natural view, you can see condors and sheep. You will visit the Puerto Sanchez caverns, the old miner boat, and a hospital boat.
The visit start from the Puerto Sanchez to the Catedral de Marmol.

On the way to “Parque nacional Patagonia you can visit “Cueva de los manos” and the “Piedra clavada”, it is spectacular. It’s quite steep up and down and it can be with strong winds. But the view from the viewpoint is great. The way to the parque is long but the “ripio” wasn’t’t bad. The campgroung “El silencio” is really nice, basic equipment but you can have a hot shower. There are different walks from half an hour to hikings up to five days in the new parque (before there were three “reservas”, since last year there is just one national parquet going south to the “Lago Cochrane”. Bring your own food and drinks because there you won’t find anything.

Transfer by ferry on the beautiful Lago General Carrera to Chile Chico. Good seats, you can buy drinks and the trip is pleasant.

We had booked a guide for this tour. Although we enjoyed his company we can compeltely recommend doing this tour from Chile Chico by yourself.
Teg gravel road is easy to drive (about 45 minutes), the total hike is 7.5 km long, very well marked and maintained (which used not to be the case until a year ago) and the hike is easy to moderate (600m altitude gain over the first 3.8 km, then down more steeply from the Valle Lunar, which you can also hike separately from the trail head (1.5 km with about 500m elevation).
The only thing to consider is that you won‘t be able to drive to the trailhead from the ticket booth (2.2km) unless you have a 4x4. So you will have to add that distance unless you can hitch a ride up with someone else.

A very nice hike, gorgeous scenery, easy to do alone!
On the same day you may consider to keep driving to Jeinimeni Lake and hike up to the viewpoint (30 min) for gorgeous vistas. You can also walk along he lake more but it is closed for cars from the toll booth.

All in all a lovely outing and about the only thing we found worthwhile doing in Chile Chico.

occasionally (mildly) hair-raising, tortuous, precipitous; dramatic landscape, non-stop views; gas in Chile Chico....

On the dramatic Road 7 linking the Carretera Austral with the Argentine border you come accross this strange looking and somewhat arrid view. There is a lookout point where you can stop and take photos but the displays are unreadable so it is unclear to what extent the lake/laguna is natural or the result of open put mining. Whether natural or man-made, the view leaves an impression and has some esthetique value.

Plaza del Viento is the place to go if you want views of Chile Chico. It is not the most exciting attraction, but does offer good views of the town and the lake on a sunny day.

If you’re in Chile Chico with 15-20 mins to spare you might as well walk up the orange steps to get a bit of a view of the town and the lake. It’s just there and doesn’t take too long, but not exactly a point worthy of much note
