- lucy_moorefoxDublin, Ireland41 contributionsI visited the Mysore City Palace (there are a number of palaces in Mysore - this is the really famous one). Completed in 1912, after an earlier structure burned down, this Palace has stood the test of both time & literally millions of visitors. I arrived during the Xmas holiday season & the place was heaving with school tour groups! Things calmed down a bit by late afternoon &, accompanied by my guide Ragu, we queued and entered the Palace interior. It was well worth it! Photography is allowed, but you need to leave your shoes outside in a numbered shoe bag. The Marriage Pavillion, public meeting hall & private meeting hall are all incredible! I love how they tried to be inclusive in the design - Indo-Sarcenic, classical European and Islamic features are all beautifully coordinated. The solid gold howdah has such intricate decoration, along with the whisks, which have thin strands of ivory in place of hairs! There is a lavishly decorated silver door for the entrance for the Maharajah only. The Royal Family still live in one of the wings & that remains private. If you don't want to queue & brave the crowds, then you can wander around outside for free.Written 29 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GaurishPorvorim, India501 contributionsCertainly a must visit place if you vacationing in Mysore or Coorg. The peaceful feeling you get inside the Monastery is a very unique experience. Very lively place with positive vibes. You get to know a lot about Buddhist culture if you just look at the paintings all around the Monastery. A very well preserved heritage site for Buddhist.Written 4 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sunil DMumbai, India166 contributionswe went when it was drizzing and there was a light mist over the place and it was great ambience .. however due to the weekend rush we did not have time to go in ... the parking facilities are good , however the road to the temple from the parking area through the shops needed cleanliness.
pls dont forget to see the Mahisasur statue on way back to parking .Written 15 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Aditya AntikaLondon, UK60 contributionsExcellent place to visit. Somehow hidden or not known to a lot of people when we visit.
Built around the backwaters of the dam, which provides an excellent view.
Temple, gardens and everything as a whole was brilliant.
We planned it along with Brindavan gardens.
We spent the afternoon over here, and then the evening at Brindavan gardens.
