I was not confronted by anyone and very respectfully made my way to Uggool beach without causing any issues. I believe it is dreadful that anyone should claim a right to block responsible and respectful people from gaining access to a public beach. The Uggool beach is of spectacular beauty and among the finest examples of shoreline in the country.
I have heard a story that the man who owns the property that blocks access to the public beach asked the local government authorities to design and construct an access path or gate to allow a seperated access path for the public to access the public beach of Uggool, according to the rumours, the government refused to build such a path, and told the man that if he wanted such a path that he would have to to build it himself at his own expense.
So I do blame in part the neglectful attitude of the local authorities involved. Ofcourse anyone can see that the man has a dilema on his hands and that undoubtedly it was a reasonable request for him to seek help for safeguarding his sense of privacy by having the government build a seperate access path to the Uggool beach away from his private residence and at the expense of the government.
Nonetheless it does not change the fact the Uggool is a public beach as are all beaches in Ireland by law and it is not right or just to block access for the public to one of Irelands most beautiful scenic spots, despite the inconvenience it maybe to the owner of the intervening land.
There I send a personal appeal to this man, to let the bitterness which you may feel entitles to hold, to dissipate in the name of God, for it is Gods land that you are holding for ransom. I think everyone must have sympathy and understanding for the position you find yourself in, cetainly I do, but it will not stop me from, with respect, making my way to one of Irelands most beautiful places of natural beauty Uggool beach.
Kindest regards, 'Walker of the Wild'
