    An ABSOLUT MUST ...
    I must confess this fortification and its Church exceeded all my expectations. This early 10th century castle is well preserved and clearly very well taken care of. The Alcacova church within its premises is an absolute gem. I was surprised not to see anyone supervising its visit. I should further add that the view over the firmer rice paddies"area is astonishingly beautiful.

    Totally worth the trip
    We went there based on a recommendation from a friend and were not disappointed. The zoo feels more like a park where we walk and meet animals. Some of them will come out to greet you and I got a high five from a monkey!
    The park has been hit by a disastrous hurricane in october 2018 so it does need some repairs but it's still more than worth it as is.
    Owner told me they were going to add giraffes to their park very soon.

    Go inside
    When you walk by the church you can not imagine what you may find inside; the columns are quite unique and the renaissance altars are very good. Enjoy!

    For art and history buffs
    It would be a miracle to catch it open, judging by the times I've been to Montemor-o-Velho, but if you do it is definitely worth a visit. Although it is relatively plain on the outside, there is some great sculpture to be seen inside. A hidden gem.
