Wonderful rock caves and temples - many of single stone. Fantastic architectural skills of ancient Tamil dynasty. Fantastic skills in stone sculpture visible even today.

It’s worth visiting this place. It is one of the monuments in Mahabalipuram. Avoid public holidays. It was too crowded when we visited on local festival public holiday. We couldn’t take proper pictures. Do hire a guide to know the history and significance of it. There are government authorized guides available. It will take around 30 mins to see this place. Entry fee is just Rs40 which is for all monuments nearby.

This was an amazing 7-8th century rock carving and was well worth the visit despite the heat and excessive humidity. It was well preserved

You will starting your heritage journey from Krishna Mandapam. Krishna lifting the gowardhan parbat is depicted through a sculptor. This is a must visit archaeological site when in Mamallapuram. There is no entry fee to sew this monument. The crowd will be more on weekends and holidays (best to visit on weekdays as it will be less crowded).Carry sunglasses, caps/umbrella and water bottles while visiting Mahabalipuram and avoid summer season.
