We had a lovely 4 night stay in mid September in Klausen/Chiusa. The location was perfect for nearby hikes and we loved exploring the town. The locals were friendly and we enjoyed walking around the town and by the river. We got some beautiful photos. There were 2 grocery stores within walking distance and we needed to stop by the local pharmacy and the pharmacist was delightful (& spoke English very well). A beautiful town located in the Dolomites … I’m so glad we stayed here.

If you want a stop-off on a long trip, this is a good location. Pretty medieval centre with the monastery and castle dominating. For the more sporty, climb up to the top of the hill and visit the ancient fortified monastery (still occupied). Word of advice, unless you want a full cardio workout, walk up via the 40 min nature walk (very pretty) and go down by the steep cobbled path.

Interesting wine spot in the mountains. Most of the wineries area further down south near Caldaro, so it is rare to see one in the area of Chiusa. They let us taste all of their wines (except the sweet Passito which was out of stock), and we ended up buying a few bottles (of "Kerner").

There were some nice paintings and watercolors from local artists. The so-called Treasure of Loreto, however, is unfortunately poorly presented.

A model of this castle was used by Dave Arneson as Blackmoor Castle in his original Blackmoor campaign. Arneson would go on to co-create Dungeons & Dragons with Gary Gygax. The Burg Branzoll model kit is still available through amazon.

This church is worth a visit if you are in the Old Town of Klausen / Chiusi as it is a pleasant but not exceptional experience
