Had a great day with Day catfishing with Dan. For my father and son it was their first time catfishing on the Red. Caught a tagged fish and 10 masters. Look foreword to next year. MBL. Brandon, Mb.

This was our second trip with Dan and we loved it even more than the first one. Dan has 1st class equipment and knowledge about the fishery. He’s a super patient coach and fishing mentor and he keeps you laughing with stories all day long. I also think that’s he gets just as excited about seeing giant greenbacks as we do. If you’re thinking about fishing with a guide, Dan will help you make memories that will last a lifetime.

This was an excellent trip for a number of reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, the attitude of any angler coming to fish lake Winnipeg is important as there are both highs and lows. You guys were incredibly positive and were tuned into the work required for a successful trip! Secondly, the fish need to cooperate to some extent and that they did! Thanks very much for your incredibly positive outlook you brought each day. It was a pleasure fishing with you and your son again. I hope we can spend some time on the lake again in the future.

I came across Cateye Outfitters while searching for a Lake Winnipeg ice fishing guide to take myself and my girlfriend on an authentic Manitoban winter experience. The entire process from first contact to the fishing experience with Dan was phenomenal. From my initial conversation with Dan, it was clear he has a burning passion for the fisheries he is familiar with and has an equal passion of sharing his knowledge with others. As well, Dan is well-acquainted with all the latest fishing regulations and ensures they are followed at all times. Our day on the ice began with meeting Dan and his large enthusiasm for sharing fishing knowledge and new experiences with others. Dan's equipment was top-notch, using Garmin Livescope and Vexlar flashers to ensure our success in catching fish. It was my girlfriend's first time truly fishing, Dan was very patient and supportive while coaching her through various techniques to entice greenbacks and bring them through the ice. My girlfriend was even successful at landing a 29" walleye, again this was her first time fishing. I would consider it a privilege to go on a guided fishing excursion with Dan, and the memories from our day on the ice with him will live on forever. I am already trying to figure out when my schedule will allow me to book another day with Dan so I can have another shot at hooking a master angler walleye.

Thank you so much for having taken the time to write this review. You too have an extraordinary passion for Manitoba and one of its unique fisheries - lake Winnipeg and its greenback walleyes. It was cool working with you over the whole period of booking, to fishing and corresponding about your fishing day. You knew what you wanted and there was no guessing as to what was to be a part of your fishing experience.
As for the fishing, your obvious skills made fishing with you that much more enjoyable. Furthermore, you effortlessly helped me make the day fun for your partner. Regretfully we were unable to put you on the Manitoba Master Angler list this time but there’s always another opportunity (in the future) if you should so choose to go after it with our service.
Thanks again for booking with us and hopefully we will have an opportunity to fish together again in the future.

Wow, I mean just, wow an incredible ice fishing day. My partner set up this excursion for us as he wanted me to experience an authentic Manitoba winter adventure, as I am from the U.S. and didn't grow up participating in outdoorsy activities. With that said, Dan was an amazing guide for a newbie like me by starting the day by teaching me fishing basics, to coaching me on how to successfully hook a fish, then cheering me on when I could manage on my own.
I'd like to also share that Dan is incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share about the history of the area, the types and behaviors of fish in Lake Winnipeg, and the rules/regulations. In addition to this, Dan was genuinely interested in getting to know us and was engaged in conversations throughout the day.
Cat Eye Outfitters has secured two customers who will be returning in the future.
I'd like to also share that Dan is incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share about the history of the area, the types and behaviors of fish in Lake Winnipeg, and the rules/regulations. In addition to this, Dan was genuinely interested in getting to know us and was engaged in conversations throughout the day.

The overview given of your learning process (for ice fishing lake Winnipeg’s trophy walleye) is remarkable. The student (you!) in this case was very much able to listen and put into effect the basics of walleye ice angling in short order. Moreover your enthusiasm made the whole process that much more fun! Your partner and I had a lot of fun coaching and watching/experiencing your success.
It was also very interesting to get to know you and your partner. The conversations ranged far and wide and made the day even more interesting.
Thank you for taking the time to describe/share your day out on the ice with this review and hopefully we have an opportunity to fish together again.

You guys were awesome anglers too! It was a really enjoyable day to see how much you guys enjoyed fighting those big catfish! The conversation and enthusiasm in the boat made the day go by that much quicker. I hope we have an opportunity to share a boat together some time in the future. Was a awesome time went for a stag landed over 20 nice cats in 4 hrs. Guide was awesome very knowledgeable gave us a bunch of tips and tricks to get this big cats on the boat. would very much recommend booking a trip

This was a very cool way to celebrate the marriage of a friend. I’m happy everyone had a chance to catch a good one! The enthusiasm of the group made for a great day on the water! I hope we can share a boat together again some time in the future.

Spent August 6th with Dan from Cat Eye Outfitters, we had a great day with over 20 fish in the boat. His knowledge of knowing where the fish should be and why they are there allowed us to dial to a couple different areas where we did very well. It was my second time fishing Cats with Dan and I look forward to the next trip.

I have fished and hunted with dozens of different guides across North America and I cannot give enough compliments to Dan from Cat Eye Outfitter. A true gentleman... Dan is kind, humble, punctual and honest. We recently flew to Winnipeg and drove to Selkirk for an ice fishing weekend with Dan. Unfortunately, we struck brutal weather. ie. -25C and windy. Dan was fully prepared with 2 insulated fishing tents and 2 heaters. All Dan's gear is top notch. Excellent rods and reels with new line. Fantastic assortment of lures. Tons of bait. Great dependable snowmobiles. Spending 8 hours in a fishing tent with a stranger is a long time. Dan is very easy to talk to and does what ever he can to make your trip enjoyable and successful. My brother previously fished catfish with Dan in the summer time and had the same experience which lead us to book a winter trip with Dan. I will definitely fish with Dan again!

Thank you for the review. You guys were a pleasure to fish with and brought a level of experience that made fishing very enjoyable. Certainly the weather was a little averse to a run and gun strategy but having shelter saved the days! Without a doubt I’d be happy to share a shelter or to cut and fish a bunch of hole with you guys anytime!

When I visited Selkirk this October i wanted to do some fishing and wanted to hire someone in the area that was knowledgeable and experienced; I checked on the internet and Dan's name came up; We had a brief conversation and given the tone of what was shared i was confident that Dan was just the right guy to go out on the river with;
We were one of the first boaters on the river that day and wanted to take advantage of the Morning bite as Dan referred to it;
We went some distance and picked a spot at his direction; Within an hour we had company from at least 8 other boats so i know we were at a popular spot;
We used jigs and live bait as our weapons of choice to target pickerel; Dan showed me two of his favorite knots to attach jigs to line and we also talked about the pros and cons of the different fish lines available; It was very clear that Dan was an expert in this regard as well;
We were catching some fish but it was clear Dan was doing more of it than I was;
He coached me further on how to improve my jigging. He was patient and insightful with his comments and with some practice my skills improved: I know because I started putting more fish into the boat;
I found the whole experience very rewarding and an excellent choice for how to spend the day fishing, given my limited skill set that Dan helped me grow;
I would recommend Cateye outfitting as a great choice for someone wanting to spend a great day on the water with a fun guide, learn to fish in this area or improve their fishing skills

I very much enjoyed my time in the boat with you. I was particularly impressed with your broad knowledge of so many issues that are important to me. Your sense of humour made the day go by even more quickly and really put me at ease. It was fun to share some of my ideas about Fishing and what it takes to become a more proficient angler. You certainly were able to pick up and work with some of the suggestions made. I certainly would share a boat with you anytime in the future. Thank you so much for your review. Had the privilege of experiencing Dan's prowess on the Red River yesterday and we found greenbacks quickly. His systematic approach and knowledge of local fish migration patterns were amazing. As a lifetime casual angler and novice boater I really appreciated Dan's teachings and will attest to his ability to find fish wherever they are.
Within a few minutes we were landing 20"+ walleye and we easily reached our limit by noon. We also caught a few bullheads and saugers to make it fun. There wasn't a dull moment all day as any conversation with Dan will reveal his sense of humour and sensible approach to Red River fishing. Dan also provided great tips on outboard maintenance other boating tips that I will use and share going forward. One of the best features of Dan's approach is his willingness to assist you to fish out of your own boat with your own equipment and I left with increased confidence that I can apply to my future trips.
I caught a personal best 27" walleye on what is now the best day of catching fish ever for me! Thanks Dan!
