There are actually two museums at the castle and a walking tour. One museum focuses on the time the SS spend in the area. Also of what happened here during the war years. The other museum covers the history and some geology of the area back to the beginning. Both are very interesting. There is a walking tour that takes... More

This has a permanent exhibition of the ideology and Terror of the SS, this is a courageous step by the people of Germany to try and explain the past in an open manner. What must also be said is that the museum also is the history of the Prince Bishopric of Paderborn.

This was absolutely amazing. I would recommend everyone to go visit. The dungeon was creepy since you could get a sense of what it was like to be down there. Then to walk through the rest of the castle and see it's rich history left me in awe of everything that has happened there. I enjoyed myself.

Good collection of artifacts . Very little in the way of English description, which is a shame. Like a lot of museums in Germany you are given an opinion , rather than allowed to decide for yourself. The castle is worth a visit but the museum is underwhelming.

Very interesting and beautiful building. Displays mostly covered details about the prince-bishop and religious politics, but also spent time on natural history of the area, the cultural and economics of the medieval times. There was much about the crafts and industries and what people were allowed to do, how they supported themselves and what their lords required of them. There... More

As a WWII history buff And fan of castles I had to visit. This is a beautiful caslte and wonderful museum full of centuries of history and artifacts. The nickname of Himmler's castle may scare some away, but don't let it as this places houses much prior to and beyond the years of evil. The architecture is amazing and one... More

An absolute eye opener !!! Stunning building steeped in history. The museum shows how life was and how harsh the conditions were for the POWs . Well worth a visit!!!

A really worthwhile visit to the castle museum, which covers the whole history - natural, human, political, religious, from palaeohistory to now - of the former prince-bishopric of Paderborn. There are sections on the manners of life in various times, on agriculture and rural life, on urban living and the middle-class, on the reformation and counter-reformation and how they shaped...
