Back to the 1970's

Well since the 1970's there has been an annual, summer, exhibition held in this lovely castle. The 2016 subject was indeed the 70's. A fascinating event, a reminder of so many... read more

We visited the exhibition just before it ends. Sadly it was rather disappointing. I am not sure what I had expected but it was quite politically oriented and not so much of the flower power era I had thought. The audio guide was rather confusing and the ladies loos looked as it they had not been cleaned for a long... More

Well since the 1970's there has been an annual, summer, exhibition held in this lovely castle. The 2016 subject was indeed the 70's. A fascinating event, a reminder of so many items we owned / used. As a visitor from abroad it was particularly interesting to see the political slant on world affairs from a mid European country. It would... More

The building is interesting, but the '70s exhibition dominated the place. There was no information about the building at all. With so much to see in the area, I'd give this a miss.

For people like us with very limited German we tried to use their app to get more information about what we were looking at. Sadly it didn't work very well and kept failing. The dialogue is also too long for each point when it does work. The grounds were very nice.

It's a quite popular hotpot. There is pop music performance in centre of the old building where the restaurant is. We watched the interesting 1970’s exhibition. Actually, what impressed us is the well organized garden which can be ideal for dating.

The castle is interesting but not spectacular; however, the Viking Exhibition was excellent. The exhibition provided a thorough introduction to the Vikings, including not only their raiding, but also a glimpse into their life in Scandinavia.

Our Viennese friends (couple & a 3,5y old) took us to Schallaburg, and we had a surprisingly interesting yet relaxing half day. The current exhibition (India and the Maharajas) was tastefully integrated within the castle walls, offered a good overview of the history of the Indian subcontinent (not my forte), and was definitely child-friendly (stamps to be collected in some... Schallaburg is a well preserved Renaissance juwel - great gardens and walks around. We visited the current India exhibition, which is excellent. Fantastic kids playground in shape of a dragon. They have buses connecting from Melk and it is only a couple of miles away.
