I went to this pagoda twice during my visit to Thailand. Its architecture is beautiful and unique. The pagoda is spacious and there is a walking street nearby where people can buy Indigo stuff - the special kind of fabric in Sakon Nakhon.

This large temple within Sakon Nakhon is definitely a must to visit. We visited it in the early evening when the thousands of small mirrored glass tiles covering most of the buildings bring out all its glory.

At the centre of Sakon Nakorn, wat phra That choeng chum is the heart of the area and of the Sakon Nakorn residents. The big Buddha and the Pagoda are the sacred places.

A sprawling temple complex, but the main parts are quite accessible and stunningly beautiful. I've not read anything about it's history, but tucked away inside is what appears to be a remnant of a Khmer temple...perhaps Hindu...which only men may view by crouching down in...More

Unfortunately, seeing the actual structure, which is embedded within a newer structure, is off-limits to female visitors due to its former identity (?) as a possible Hindu temple. There is an old inscription just visible from the doorway. We visited on a Thai Buddhist holiday...More
