Although the museum is mostly in Spanish we still enjoyed it. We have been learning Spanish so we got to try understanding as much as we could. It was free to enter on the day we went to it which was an unexpected bonus.

Good place to visit. Gabriela Mistral is one of the most important personalities from Chile. Not just for beautiful poems and writings, a character who contributed to her country and the entire world. The museum is a good example of her life and her work.

It looks nice but it is closed Mondays. Thank goodness for Google maps which said it was closed, because there was no mention of it here, but we still made alternate plans in case Google was correct.

A large museum devoted to one of the two Noble Laureate’s of Chile. They built a large museum for her , he collected houses (3). When I first visited this museum some years ago my Spanish was not even above survival level. Today the visit was far more meaningful and one hopes the many information boards will eventually be offered in Other languages as well. The Garden at the back of the Museum offers a Quiet Moments Space.

This museum is lame except that they have her real Nobel prize. I'd never seen one before so that was nice. Otherwise you need to be a fan to make it worth a visit.

It is difficult to travel about Chile without seeing several notable non-military people from the country's past; Neruda and Mistral. While in Vicuna do make a point to visit the museum / home. On the street which bears her name --Mistral. Incidentally the Plaza des Armas has a huge stone face of her centered within a fountain. Visiting hours would be available but might change now that Chile's Fall season has begun. The museum still lacks sufficient other major languages on their Storyboards. . A multi linguistic pamplet would suffice. The grounds are large and a lovely area to walk about.

We did not have a chance to stop in Vicuna to visit the larger Gabriel Mistral Museum. However the small museum in Monte Grande is a simple and modest museum with memorabilia’s, photos of Gabriel Mistral as a teacher, poetess, aide to friends’ communications and her Nobel Peace Prize plaques for Literature. Museum was also her first school and as a post office. A statue of her with kids stands in the small plaza next to the museum. Worth visiting if you are in the area, however, note that all displays and notes are in Spanish.
