Good tea gardens but not comparable with high slopes tea estates of Munnar or Darjiling... Scattered at many spots.. Low slopes...

The best attraction of Palampur are its tea gardens. Though not as well maintained as the Darjeeling or the Nilgiri tea garden yet the lush green environment with well pruned bushes is a sight to watch. Surprisingly the gardens are not visited by most tourists and you can take a nice stroll through the narrow trails or sit down under one of the tress with book in hand! Mesmerizing

Many people are not aware that Palampur and surrounding areas have many tea estates and tea gardens .Even though these are quite small compared to the estates in Assam etc ,the quality of the tea is comparable to the best in India.
One can go for a walk via the small trails in the garden, the more enthusiastic ones can visit the HP co-operative tea factory to learn about the history of tea and buy various types of teas there .
During plucking season it is a lovely sight to see workers with the baskets ,definitely worth seeing when in the area.

If you have seen tea estates in Munnar or Assam, this is huge disappointment but if you haven't then yes please go. For me, it was just interesting to know that Himachal Pradesh is also a tea producer. Period.

On our way from Dharmashala town to Kangra airport, we stopped by the tea gardens. A guy has laid out a table by the road to sell tea powder. It was nice to walk around the garden for fresh air and good photos. After a while it started to drizzle, so we had to leave.

Good thing is that it wasn't overly crowded. I would have preferred a tea tasting place as well, but it's not available here.

Vast tea gardens are seen throughout Palampur also known as the tea capital on North India. Surrounded by the Dhauladhar ranges, it affords spectacular views of snow peak mountains. Most of the gardens are owned by cooperatives while a few belong to private owners. One cannot miss seeing the gardens that stretch for miles on either side of the Palampur road.
