The tour wasn't very long as the facility itself is not that large but our tour guide packed in a lot of information. The tour mostly consisted of walking through the facility, watching the workers on the factory floor make cheese, about a 30-minute powerpoint presentation about the history of the factory and the settling of Monteverde, and then finally... For $12 you will be shown a delivery dock, walk past a window looking into the cheese factory while bring given some information by the tour guide, then seated in a room and shown slides of the history of the cheese factory, then a tasting of cheese produced by the factory. If I had known this I would simply have... More

although we were not able to catch the guided tour at 2:00, we enjoyed hanging around the window and watching the cheesemakers. The coffee and Ice creams were delicious!

The ice cream was very good and a nice treat on a hot afternoon. BE AWARE- ONLY CASH FOR THE TOUR We actually didn't take the tour because we didn't have enough cash but were able to look the history up. The reason for only 3 stars- the staff was rude. We realize that it is annoying to get asked... More

We ate here twice as we loved the milkshake and ice cream so much. We tried figs milkshake and macadamia and coffee ice creams and they were very tasty. My husband doesn't like sweets and he really enjoyed the taste.

The history of this factory is extremely interesting, but I probably could have looked that up online. The tour itself was mostly a slideshow of this history with only a blurry view of the actual cheese production floor. For the $12 price that was pretty disappointing. The cheese itself was only okay. The Monterico cheese that is endemic to the... More

One scoop costs about $2 and it tastes horrible. Condensed milk and sugar with a bit of Macadamia nuts. My husband's Chocolate/Coffee was equally disappointing. Hyper expensive, bad cheese as well. Outside San Jose, the entire country is a colony/slum of westerners and they are treated as walking ATMs. With average family income of about $500 per month, other than... More

It's not the most "exciting" destination in Monteverde, but if you're as interested in the social and economic history of the region as we were this is a fascinating place to check out. For US$12, you get an hour-long tour through the factory to see the cheese-making process, followed by a slide show of the factory's history, and finally you... More

When planning our visit to Monteverde I sensed that the quickest way to connect with the commercial history of the area was to visit the Monteverde Cheese Factory. I was right. The facility was purchased a couple of years ago by a large firm yet they continue to produce cheese, cream, dips and ice cream under their original label and... More
