Next to a public beach which looks onto Le Morne Mountain and the sea where dolphins are sighted on boat trips. Experienced guides show visitors around this 19th century British fort. Come and discover why it was built, how the tower was equipped for soldiers to survive inside during a siege, and see where they ate and slept. Displays include a cannon, coins, military buttons, life size models of soldiers with their muskets and swords.Feel the weight of a real cannonball and see where the powder was kept. Have your camera handy for a photo of yourself dressed up as a soldier with a musket.

Interesting piece of history. Well presented in English by local young lady. Probably would have been more comfortable for her in French and OK for my wife but I speak only English. She could answer questions outside of the usual presentation. The tower and contents have been well restored. Good location for walk along nice beach or swim.

Well worth a visit, 30-45 mins of your holiday time not forgotten. So nearly missed this. Thought it was a 60's water tower !! . This tower was built approx 180 years ago. The internal brick-work used bricks shipped in from the UK. The guides were very informative & friendly. Leave an extra ££ in the box.

Mauritius is not only beautiful beaches and amazing landscapes, but offers also a lot of places to know about the history of the island and his people. One of this, is the Martello Tower, built and used during the colonial era, today converted in a museum where a very informative guide will give you a tour around the levels ,... More

We really enjoyed our visit. This is such a well managed attraction. The guided tour was excellent, enhanced by our very knowledgeable guide. A beautifully maintained museum with experienced tour guides. Any question asked was answered thoroughly with extensive knowledge. We had our 4 yr old who got a little bored with the exhibits, so I wouldn't advise this for young children. There were muskets you could hold and an amazing view at the top of the tower. Got great photos. Definitely recommend.

Cheap entry, at 130 rupees for the two of us I think. We had a very kind tour guide who gave us a very friendly and unimposing walk around the tower, for which the visit was made much better than if we walked around on our own. I would recommend this - a fascinating bit of history which you can... More

My children are 7 and 9 and they loved the Martello tower tour. From the prisoner surprise to holding the rifle and hearing the story of how they lived in the tower. Intesting for all ages. If you have time it's worth a visit.

We stopped off at the museum on our journey around the coast road. The museum is inside the tower and really well set out. At the time we were the only visitors there and were given a guided tour. The guide was personable, very well informed and made the tour extremely interesting. Furthermore, she was able to answer all questions... More
