The Castello is one of the most unique hotels I've ever stayed in. The rooms are stunning and the attention to detail is honestly quite astounding. Our room was modern and sleek yet somehow also felt true to the castle with amazing high ceilings. We also had a dressing room/bathroom that was the perfect size. The restaurant within the hotel is more of an experience than a restaurant, everything we tried was absolutely delicious - the presentation was also delightful - together it made for some extremely memorable meals. The staff are lovely and quick to offer fantastic recommendations and it was very clean. Any covid related doubts were left at the door as they provided multiple hand sanitising points, the staff were masked up and the rooms were cleaned to an extremely high standard. A perfect holiday.

Why wife and I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively, particularly in Italy. This was absolutely one of the most fabulous places we have ever stayed. The Castello is stunning, the staff exception, the food amazing, and the hospitality is truly special. Diana and Massimo really make you feel like part of their family. I cannot overstate how wonderful this place is.

Magnificent castle and a part of it is private actually and you cannot take pictures there.
Its better to visit this place with a guide to understand the history behind this construction and how it was invovled with the region rich history
There is also a restaurant inside to eat

This newly restored castle is truly magnificent on so many levels. We were truly wowed. Steeped in history and beauty and frescoes.... the hotel is an oasis surrounded by so much to explore on both the Ionian and Adriatic coasts. This really felt like "Secret Puglia"... a part of the world so special in that it feels undiscovered. The meals were extraordinary... even by Italian high standards. Everything is made in-house with the freshest ingredients and the finest wines - including some of the best Pugliese wines we have ever had. The fresh breads and desserts were sumptuous. Owners Massimo and Diana were incredibly gracious, inviting us along with other guests to share an apperitivo in the flower filled garden overlooking the side of the castle... which was divine. Followed by a romantic dinner in the courtyard under the stars. We had such an amazing time... we didn't want to leave... and extended our trip TWICE! Due to limited available rooms, our extended stay meant that we experienced 3 different rooms - all so special, with exposed limestone walls and one with a fabulous shower for two. Plus local toiletries made with olive oil from Puglia. The team anticipated everything... including making reservations for us at the best beach clubs along the coast. My husband and I have traveled to Puglia quite a bit in the past... mostly staying further north between Martina Franca and Lecce. This was our first time so far south... and we are now true fans. Salento and the Castello di Ugento are truly spectacular!

I would like to thank all of the staff and the owner Max for going above and beyond in every respect. On the way to Ugento we were involved in a car crash and very shaken up.

On arrival they managed the whole situation for us. Ice for my wife’s neck, calling car hire companies, bringing us anything we needed and helping us to navigate a very difficult situation.

Only the next day could we appreciate the beauty of the venue. It’s a stunning Castello steeped in history with beautiful gardens also used to provide the freshest ingredients for the evening meals. There are not many places you can eat your breakfast over the ruins of an old castle turret!

Every single staff member asked if we were alright, Max came over to check at breakfast and dinner and made us feel so relaxed. The wine choice was stunning. I’ve yet to have a finer glass of wine.

Places like this need a sixth star on trip advisor. Every aspect from location to food to service was exceptional.

Thank you all so much!!!

This lovingly restored castle, with remnants of Norman and Baroque history, is home to the d'Amore family. One can feel the love around it. Massimo stopped by to greet guests at breakfast. The meals are fabulous whether eaten on the outdoor patio with an amazing view or inside sitting atop remains from a Norman Tower. The private garden and other public areas are enhancements to beautifully designed rooms inside the actual stone palace walls. A private tour of the recently discovered frescoes is open to all who stay here. So thrilled I heard of this new boutique hotel and added it to my stops. The staff arranged for a massage on site as well as a mani/pedi at a shop in the quintessential town.

The owners have created a magnificent small hotel and left nothing un thought of !!. Rooms are large , plenty of public areas to relax in and the restaurant should have Michelin stars. Absolutely no faults . Stay longer here as both coasts are easily accessible. Every staff member is delightful and helpful.

We have a saying in the UK that things can be like London buses - 'you wait ages for one, and then three come along at the same time'. I wonder if this will apply to the Michelin stars that must be on their way to the restaurant at Castello di Ugento. The food here is outstanding.
Dinner is a set menu with very little choice and is all the better for that. Exquisite local ingredients are beautifully prepared and served. Get there if you can.
I think the best way to describe the Castello is 'a world class restaurant with fabulous, historic rooms'. It is being renovated by a member of the family that has owned it for centuries and his charming wife. Millions are clearly being spent and staying there is a terrific experience. That is fortunate, because Ugento does not have much else to recommend it, but the trip is worth it for the food and the hotel.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay 4 nights in this magnificently (recently) restored castle in the quintessential Puglian town of Ugento. Not only does it feel like a well loved home, our stay was more of an experience than simply a nice place to stay as part of our honeymoon. From the moment we were greeted, we were treated with nibbles and a glass of bubbles from the lovely staff. Our room was the Corte del Giardino suite which was beautifully appointed and large and the bed was so comfortable. We met Massimo, who, alongside his wife Diane have transformed this castle to what it is today. He showed us the grounds (wow!) and also some of the other rooms. All of the accommodation options are huge, so you will not be disappointed with whatever option you choose. Every night dinner is provided in the onsite restaurant Il Tempo Nuovo - a multi-course dinner of Michelin standards in our opinion. We were excited to dine there every evening. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and presented and all waitstaff and chefs were very friendly and helpful! Castello di Ugento is a new boutique hotel and restaurant that is well placed to explore the beautiful puglian coastline (hire a car). If you have the time, we recommend doing the private cooking class with chef Odette Fada. Over several hours we enjoyed a visit to the local fishing boats and shop to choose fresh produce followed by preparing lunch in the super modern culinary kitchen at the Castello. Hands down the best cooking experience we have done. This place is worth every penny. The staff are amazing and we hope to visit again soon!

Castillo di Ugento is one of those places that pleases beyond expectations! It’s a beautiful historic castle with very personal hospitality and wonderful, amazing food. I have traveled a lot and this is one of the most magical places I’ve experienced. I hope to return one day
