Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

On our CIE bus tour of Scotland we visited many castles. This one was my favorite with a self-guided tour, lots of time to enjoy all the antiques and awsome grounds and gardens. The bagpiper walking around the outside was was very fitting. Could have spent all afternoon there.

There's a good bit to see in the Castle itself with well designed information boards in each room. There's many lovely paintings around the house. It takes quite a while to go around so leave yourself plenty of time if you are going there later in the day. The gardens are lovely and I found the information display about the... More

Very sorry to see this fantastic old place go downhill so much. The entire house is in need of decoration, it is most shabbily and disheveled Not good to see this historic building not being cared for by the present owner and management Won't be back again

Hi Richie, we were disappointed to read your comments. Blair Castle hasn't gone downhill in any way so we're also puzzled by your comments. I can assure you that, as a 5-star visitor attraction, this castle is very well cared for by its owners and management. More

I had been to Blair castle when I was a child on a family holiday some 30 years ago and decided as we were on holiday near by I would love to visit again. I have always remembered the peacocks in the grounds and was sad to find out that they only have one male and two females at the... More

Plenty to see; interesting bit of history; deer park; gardens; extensive grounds. Allow 2-3 hours for your visit. We were offered a "special ticket" which covered Blair Castle, Scone Palace and Glamis Castle claiming a big saving on individual entry. In fact you save a couple of pounds!

Sadly we arrived after the castle had just closed for the day, however we really enjoyed walking around the castle gardens and playing in the playground, and watching the peacock and field of stag's.

Did not tour the castle this time. We enjoyed walking the grounds - beautiful planted forest, paddocks with deer and expansive garden planted in the original style. Such an interesting variety of fruit trees - unusual types. Lovely creek running through. Talented bagpiper performing, I think at noon, or 1:00 pm. (On the way, two magnificent black Highland steers in... More

It is thirteen years since I visited Blair Castle and it is still impressive. The castle itself is a hotchpotch of different styles unified by an all white facade. It has had many owners in 700 years and is still largely in private hands, the recent inheritor being resident in South Africa. The house is well curated in a National... More

An interesting house but not a particularly memorable one - partly due to the fact that no photography is allowed inside the castle except in the ballroom (which is a bit of a joke as there's nothing in there!). The piper outside as we entered was a good start, and the guides were friendly and knowledgeable but I have to... More

We visited when staying in Pitlochry. Reasonable entry prices for the two of us and our son and we weren't disappointed. The castle is stunning outside and in and the piper that plays every hour makes the visit really special. The grounds are beautiful with lots of lovely walks, deer park and pony trekking. There is supposed to be a... More
