Stunning place
Sep 2021 • Couples
We absolutely loved this woodland garden, so peaceful, so many different trees and shrubs. Great views and an excellent tea room. Only £6 to park, no other charge. Better than the National Botanic Gardens.

Nice woodland walk let down by absence of route markers.
Sep 2021 • Couples
Good car parking facilities and a lovely information board showing walking routes of differing distances and times. Sadly, once we left the car park there were no further way marking posts (other than horse/bike/foot) indicating these routes and finding a way round was left entirely to chance. Only one route had any footpath signs, and which it was I have no idea! We were incredibly disappointed in this aspect of our visit as the woods were lovely to walk round, but some signage is most definitely needed!

Beautiful
Aug 2021 • Family
Went on a light rain day. Beautiful walks, lovely flowers, really lovely. 3 pounds for 3 hours parking. Coffee shop cakes are amazing.
Sad dogs can't go off lead but there's wildlife to protect.

Challenging Wheelchair Access
Aug 2021 • Family
The gardens are beautiful but very difficult to access using a wheelchair. It would be helpful if the NT could replace the current steep gravel path with a paved path with a reduced gradient, eg a zig-zag pattern.

Lunch, and a walled garden
Aug 2021
We stopped here for lunch, which was good. It's a family run tearoom and was up to the usual high standard of the National Trust.

We looked round the walled garden, which isn't big but packs a lot in, we especially liked the water feature and, when we were there, the gazebo was closed due to it having become home to some bees. Both of us agreed that closing something due to bees was a good thing, especially as one of the first things you see in the garden is a large wickerwork bee.

We didn't have time to look at the wildflower meadow or explore the woodland (where one can do some hunting for the remains of the area's industrial past) but it did appear to be popular with families. Based on the one we saw, it was popular with dogs too.

Interesting

A very interesting and pretty woodland surrounded by various trails which go off in different directions and a large car park. It also has a very good coffee shop with homemade cakes.

Lovely gardens and walks, some spectacular plants and flowers to see. Nice little cafe for tea and cake, well worth a visit individually or with the family.
