It is a beautiful lake in the middle of Mongolian grassland and mountains. The camps around the lake offer great view of the lake. Numerous birds and animals that come to drink are both interesting to watch and photograph. However there are no outdoor places to sit and enjoy the view. Locals should think of growing more trees around the lake to help fight its dwindling water level.

Though the lake was beautiful the place was quite devoid of activities. The boat trip was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. The Ger camp lacked decent toilet facilities. Though the food and service reception wasn't bad. Overall still disappointed.

Lake Ogii is to the north of KharKhorin, can be reached in over an hour by car, a tucked away beauty where you can wander around, on foot, on a horse, in a 4x4...

Lake Ogii is one of the most convenient lakes for the Ulaan Baatar residents to visit over the weekends, still a good 4 hours drive. They seem to be camping around the lake rather than staying at the few ger camps.

I have stayed overnight in the Ogii Ger Camp, and cannot recommend the place enough. Nice location on a hill. Staff is very attentive and accomodating. No electricity during the day, about 2-3 hours of power can be enjoyed in the evening thanks to a diesel generator, when everyone charges their cameras, phones for the next day. Showers are solar power heated, was good enough to have warm water at 05:00 am!

I'd recommend taking horse rides along the lake ( the ger camp have conveniently arranged for them), hiking up towards east where you will see enough sheep, goats, horses for a lifetime, and definitely take pictures - my favourite area being the semi-marsh strip north of the lake with many kinds of birds in it.

Enjoy

Don’t do it. Expensive and terrible lodges that have no security and neighbours with no respect. Stayed at Khatan Ugii Tourist camp.

Dirty. First Ger camp where kids asked for new blankets. Bathrooms disgusting.

Karaoke party all night with drunk drivers in the Ger next door. No security and no staff

Activities aren’t very good either.

A frozen lake?
With locals drinking vodka and ice fishing?
Trying to shoot a vodka bottle?
-35c?
Clear skies and fresh air with only a few locals. This is in my top 5 Sunday afternoons!
Stunning place.

Beautiful lake with a lot of fauna, especially birds (there is a museum with which you have to make an appointment) whose waters in July are at a temperature that allows swimming. This has made it a very touristy place (especially Mongolian families). Although many people were camping freely, we stayed at Ger Ugii Khishing, a modern gers campsite with good services.
Lots of mosquitoes at night, repellent essential.
