Going in any direction, this is a road to include when visiting the northwest of Norway. They even serve a summer ski arena at the west end of the dirt trail.

If you travel on the morning them take the road from Stryn, if it's the evening then to Stryn.
The road is peaceful because not many people wants to travel 27 km and they prefer to travel on motorways.
On this road you will have nice views aver mountains streams rivers cascades ... A must seem

One of the best old mountain roads I have ever driven.
It takes longer, but is worth the time. Drive careful, narrow road

I drove 10 of the 18 National Tourist Roads this summer, and this one is actually my favorite. It is not a road that anyone uses to go from A to B because there is a good alternative and it doesn't take you to that many places so there is a high chance you will not cross anyone when you drive here. It is a scenic road and the scenery is just fantastic, you just want to stop all the time and just enjoy it, the pictures don't really show how beautiful it is. Amazing landscapes. The weather can change very quickly and you can experience all the seasons in a single drive. It is also amazing to cycle it.

We chose to drive this way since the reviews in TA were so good. We weren’t disappointed. From Stryn the road is newly asphalted as far up as the summer-ski centre. From there on it is patchy, gravel and narrow in places, but there are plenty of passing places so don’t let that put you off. The scenery is spectacular and there are many places to stop and take photos. If you want to see 10 ft snow on both sides of the road in July, then this is the place to go. As you get closer to the eastern side the landscape gets greener and the decent begins.

The very sight of the 19th century stones placed along the old road is a moment in itself, when you realise those same stones have been there for more than a century, protecting those who travelled along it.

A very beautiful drive where you must stop often and take photos. But don't forget to just enjoy the view from time to time.

I didn’t take this route on purpose but went on it because 15 between Geiranger and Stryn was closed. It was very cloudy and bit foggy with some rain the day I took it. The road is a single lane dirt road and there are some spots where it is like a bridge with no rails on either side. There were parts where the fog was so thick I couldn’t see more than 20 ft in front of me. Luckily there was almost no one on the road to pass. Once I got out of the mountains and into the valley towards Stryn the drive was really scenic.

Just do it. This is an amazing drive, one cannot find enough superlatives to describe the visual feast in front of your eyes. We could have stopped every two minutes to take photos instead we were strong and only stopped every 10 minutes! Amazing fjord landscape in the high country

This is a gorgeous though very very narrow road, so be prepared. It is simply amazing with its view and a must if you are passing by anyways.

Would recommend choosing this road over the new one though it will take longer.

We were recommended to take the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen instead of the new road... a recommendation we chose to follow, not knowing the road was not paved. It turned out those who recommended it dis not even think of that. Normally that would not be a problem, but we were on motorcycles, on our first longer trip ever on two wheels, so we were a bit surprised at first. But to be a dirt road, it turned out to be in excellent condition and no problem to handle for either of us.
And what a beautiful spot on earth! Woeth every minute of it, even though it took a lot longer to drive than the main road. Every turn of a corner revealed a new breathtaking piece of Nature, I would actually have preferred to have walked it instead of drive it, so I could have had even more time to soak it in!
If smart, choose the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen and leave the main road to the busses and those in a hurry.
