Discover the unique wine and villages of the Sierra de Salamanca

2 reviews
This is a unique opportunity to experience the authentic artisan terrace-vineyard terroir of the Sierra de Salamanca wine appellation, spending quality time in among the vines accompanied by experts who will explain everything you'd like to know and answer all your queries on what makes this ancient wine-making region and its grapes and vines so different from anywhere else in the world of wine. You will also have the opportunity to visit and explore some of the most charming and beautiful villages in Spain, whose remoteness has ensured the conservation of their medieval character dating back to the 11th century. Your tour host Don Federico, a Scottish, Spanish-speaking adopted local, is knowledgable and gregarious and will ensure your day is not only informative and relaxed but also engaging and fun – a truly unique wine experience.

This church is positioned on a side street just off of Plaza Major, or the centre of the village of La Alberca. It is small but beautiful inside and when we visited they were playing choral music in the background. You can take photos but no use of flash is allowed. Well worth a look if you happen to be in La Alberca.

Exterior is not very exciting, but put a Euro in the slot to turn on the lights for all the alters. Statuary is very old and exceptional. Look for sign of repair to minor damage on the outside caused by the 1872 Lisbon Earthquake.

Was in La Alberca for 4 days and attempted to see the inside of the church. It was something we wanted to see. It was not opened at all and there was no information posted as to when services were held, or when the church would be opened. It has a beautiful interior and some wonderful art, but we were unable to see it. Inquired to try to find out when it would be open, but the local hotel in town that we were staying at could not give us times that it was open. Visited it every day Sunday- Thursday attempting to find life in the church and hoping it would be open. It never was. Visited it a few years ago when special arrangements were made for a group to see the inside. This time there were no special arrangements made for a visit, therefore, we were unable to see the inside beauty. It is worth seeing - if you can get in. La Alberca is a small town and this church is in the center of the town.

La Alberca is not easy to find or easy to get to or on any real tourist routes. We were staying in Salamanca and decided to visit. It was worth the visit. There was easy parking on the outskirts and then we wandered through this small medieval village. There were a few stalls in the plaza. We visited the church. We had a great lunch.
