Three times Winner of Cheshires "Visitor Attraction of the Year", Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre is set in 50 acres in the heart of the beautiful Cheshire countryside, and offers everything for the perfect day out. Home of the internationally renowned Cotebrook Shire Horse Stud, Alistair King has been breeding champion Shires there for nearly 50 years and they form the centrepiece of the Centre with up to 25 horses at any time for you to meet. At Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre there is lots to see and do to make your visit interesting and enjoyable. You can learn all about the Shire horse, from its history carrying knights in armour to the important studwork today, ensuring the future of this magnificent breed. There is an opportunity to meet the horses up close and Alistair does regular talks with a personal introduction to his Shires. As well as the fabulous Shire horses there is a selection of British animals and birdlife both wild and domesticated including rare breeds. You can wander around the mile long Nature Trail to meet the horses further afield, explore the Wildlife Watch Trail, browse around the gift shop with its unique country gifts and souvenirs, then visit the Lakeside Cafe which offers light lunches and cream teas. Every spring there is FOAL WATCH which is a video diary of each mare in the weeks and days before she foals. Foal Watch then follows the foals as they grow and explore their new world. Alistair also offers Shire Horse Experience Days, as featured on BBC1, where you can learn all about preparing a shire for the show ring or explore various aspects of studwork. A warm welcome is assured all year around, closing only on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

We stopped off here expecting to see a few well looked after Shire Horses but got a lovely surprise to find there were lots of Shires all turned out in fields looking very comfortably well kept and a nature trail that takes you from field to field with lots of other wildlife to see along the way. The otters are... More

My fiancé and I enjoy visits to the cafe here. Today we had a lovely cream tea, which was great quality, value & service. The cafe has great views over the lake & shire horse centre beyond. We enjoy looking out at the sheep, horses & geese. We were pleased to see the resident cat on our visit today too.... More

We discovered this by going to eat at the ( very lovely ) inn nearby. What a smashing find, our daughter absolutely loved every moment! The centre is a beautiful ramble around the nature walk and getting up close to the beautiful shire horses, Shetland ponies, otters, a red fox etc. We loved it here & we are so pleased... More

What a delightful place to take your kids. Beautiful pigs, horses, ponies, birds, sheep, otters, owl, wild cat and nature walk even in winter. The cafe was nice and friendly too and the soup went down well with the toddler. Couldn't bring myself to buy any sausages after stroking the friendly pig!

A little disappointed with the Shire Centre after our visit. Just expected a little bit more e.g a wooden play area, a few more animals, mayve a did yiu see child friendly spotters guide or seeing the horses in action a bit more. Even the grooming was just a few brushes left on the side without supervision from staff. Felt... More

Hi Jennifer, Thanks for taking time to review the centre. We can only apologise that you were a little disappointed. We currently have 17 shire horses as well as shetland ponies, otters, polecats, foxes, wildcats and more. It does feel a bit quiter at the moment as our hens can't run free due to regulations. We give children a spotters... More

First visit to Cotebrook today. We started out with lunch in the cafe which was very nice. Staff were helpful and friendly. The cafe itself was clean and cosy with a lovely wood burning stove in the centre. We enjoyed out visit to the animals. The horses were lovely and seemed very well cared for. We walked the nature trail... More

My sister and I visited the centre today and it was fantastic. We only went round the farm circuit and didn't go on the nature walk as the weather was starting to change but we caught a couple of the talks and feeding (otters and polecats). Got some great photos. I'm not really a horse person but the Shire Horses... More

I have been to the cafe numerous times I have never previously ventured beyond it. However we recently took our two under five years old grandchildren and they really enjoyed it. There is a reasonable admission fee (free for under 4s)and one can see the shirehorses , ponies, pigs, polecats, otters and they also enjoyed chasing and stroking a little... More

The Shire Horse Centre is in a lovely setting and has lots of animals not just horses. There is a cafe and a gift shop which was very popular. Well worth a visit, some beautiful horses.

Disappointing. Don't waste your money. Not much to see considering the advertising. Management rude too.
