I had always seen this tower in pictures/ movies and this was perhaps my first visit to this amazing structure St. Augustine's Tower in Old Goa. The structure is really remarkable and leaves you wondering what an amazing sight it would have been in its days of glory. One can see this ruined tower from a distance as it is situated on a Monte Santo, Holy Hill built in 1587 and is a UNESCO world heritage sight.
As an effect of natural decay, weathering and partial demolition, the facade of the church including the 46 meters tall tower fell in 1938.. the ASI (Indian government body) has been trying to conserve this site and the magnificent monuments ...
One will be really amazed to see the structure and especially if you are a history buff ...
Must visit when in Old Goa ...

The church had four towers of which only one remains. The remaining tower is a four-storied structure built of laterite. You will be able to find some inscription among the ruins. It's believed that relics of a Georgian Queen, Ketevan the martyr is here.

This place consists of ruins of an old church that existed during the Portuguese era in Goa. It attracts alot of filmmakers due to its peaceful and vivid architecture. Apparently, only one tower of the church stands tall while the ruins are scattered all over the place. It comes under the world heritage sites and thus, maintained well. It's a must visit to relive and appreciate the bygone architecture.

This sure is a hidden jewel tucked in the bylanes of the famous Goa chapels & churches.

Standing ruins give a glimpse into the magnificent structure the Augustine Tower would have been in its happier days.

Nature is lush around and the place is kept clean. It is also quiet and serene.

Great effort by ASI and Goa authorities.

Good attraction for a small visit, during the day time. Wear comfortable clothes and footwear.

Spending time here transports you back in time .

The ruins of St. Augustine's Church complex at old Goa built in 1602. It's under the protection of Archeological Survey of India. The site is very near to the Bom Jesus Church complex. Perfect location for photographers and history enthusiasts

This place is at a walkable distance from basilica of bom Jesus. If you are in old Goa, you have many good places to look out for including this one.
I have come here many times, doing time-lapse photography, for a photo shoot and also with family.
You can spend about an hour just looking at the ruins and wandering at this place. The big tower is a good background for some nice photos.
Check some of the pictures I clicked from this place. For more pictures from goa, follow me on instagram @ saclorine.
