I’m a driver, so I go there often. Though the animal species are not many, there are a lot to learn from there. The history, the lifestyle plus you get to experience breathtaking views for pictures. It’s worth the tour.

ANIMAL CRUELTY! we visited under the impression this was a ‘reserve’ / sanctuary, this is not the case. They have 8 zebras and 1 ostrich (“currently trying to get more”) which have been “captured from South Africa”. They “breed and trade off with zoos”. We also asked why the animals were caged and the said “because they will run away to their natural habitat if they weren’t”. We saw no source of water in any fenced areas, the ostrich was pecking at an empty bowl and eating sand. They then showed us to the ‘museum’ which had a variety of skulls, “wall of skins”, ivory, ostrich egg, elephant feet & ears, “gin trap” and taxidermy animals. we were told that the items were “taken from poachers”, they do claim to help to rid of poachers. The only free creature we saw was the centipede crossing the road. If we had known this all before hand we certainly would not have put money into this cruel place. (All quotes from tour guide/civil servant).

Paul Inkoom, the tour guide from Tour Path (formerly known as Pathfinder Rentals and Tour), provided a safe driving experience to Shai Hills. The road through Akosombo-Tema was bumpy, but worth the journey for the beautiful views. Our on-site guide was Ibrahim and he was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals. We chose the 2-hour tour. My favorite part was the rock climbing to get up high to see out across the land, where the sky met the grass and the mountains were in the distance. We saw kob (deer), zebras, an ostrich, and lots of baboons. Make sure you bring water because the climbing will have you working up a sweat. I recommend Paul Inkoom as your guide. He can be reached on What's App at +233 20811 8118 or email at inkoomekow@gmail.com.

7 zebras, 1 ostric (both species imported from South Africa and one type of antelope to be seen. Also many baboons.
We bought a 2 hours drive on site. We visited the small outside museum, and that was ok. The guide was nice, but could not show more species. The tour including the travel from one gate to the other lasted all in all 45 minutes. Take also into consideration that the traffic and roads from Accra to the reserve is very time consuming. I can not recommend the visit,

Very good day spent birding here. Guide really needed to get the most from a short visit. Interesting grassland and scrub species. Decent chicken and rice from the cafe near the car park (don’t be put off by the barbed wire curtains- it is to keep the baboons away).

We got the opportunity to see some animal skins/hides and also some live animals like the Ostrich.
After we went on a short hike and some climbing and that view from the top was worth very time spent climbing.
This was also on a trip i organized.

The reserve is 60 to 90 mn away from Accra, depending on the traffic. We went during the week and most likely it goes faster during a weekend. Right at the entrance, we were welcomed by several guards and Abraham took care of us and became our guide. We used our car for the tour and he made us stop at every interesting site, explaining the history and current state and helping with taking pictures. First stop the ostrich, followed by the zebras. Baboons and antelopes were to be seen and admired all the way to the climbing rocks, from where magnificent pictures could be taken. I was pleasantly surprised by the good organization. Abraham was great, very friendly and patient. We did only one tour because of time ( took us 2hours) but we will definitely come back with more time and may be even try out their luxury tent. Thank you for a very nice excursion.
