Ruined but perfectly preserved and well maintained. The ruins are lightened when dusk comes (which is unusual in Greece). Nearby are also the caves (which I was not able to visit this time).
Gardiki castle is better preserved then Angelo castle. However views are better in Angelo castle. In theory. Because here... Well... Views are rustically amazing. The hills around, covered by trees, is something which I named 'real Greece'.
When I come back, Gardiki will be one of the first points on the list.

The ruin looks attractive from outside but there's not much to see when you get inside. It's literally just a big wall and a huge olive tree inside :)

We just rode by and thought we’d stop and look around - it’s easy parking, free, there’s also a restaurant right under the castle.. the visit takes you 5-10 minutes as there’s no information about the site apart from the EU banner with its name... could be much better.
Afterwards we climbed to the cave near by called the grave.

Flew 2000 miles to get away from brexit Britain only to have a fat Englishman berate us about how "English" money paid for "this crap old house" to be renovated, when we visited. Don't let it put you off. If you like history and ruins and breathtaking views, this is an excellent place to visit. Also free parking and admission and a couple of nice wee tavernas if you're peckish or thirsty and soon the English won't be able to to afford to visit beautiful European places like this so you won't have to put up with their offensive behavior. The renovations made were for safety, to stop parts crumbling and keep the fortress for generations more to admire and learn from. The only negative really, there aren't any information signs on site but have a look at Wikipedia for relevant information and links to more in depth histories.

Rather underwhelming, however, it's free, easy to find, and parking is no problem (huge parking space is available nearby). You need 15-20 minutes to look around. It is better to read about this castle before you go there because there is no information on site.
If you are in the area, or have a good imagination, or enjoy ruins, check it out.

Ruins of an old fort. No entrance fees; no information provided on site. Some nice views of the surrounding area from inside the fort.
There is an old olive tree by the entrance that was planted when the fort was built 800 years ago.

If you are in the area, it is worth a small de-tour to visit. The castle is a ruin, and there is almost no information - so do your own research or buy a good guide book. The Corfu government has spent money installing lights, walkways and benches which is nice.
This castle is 13th centuary and of great importance to the history of Corfu. For me one of the most fascinating things is the arches above the doors - for them to be built so long ago andstill standing is amazing!

We got there early in the morning. We were there alone. It is huge. I think it could be a nice place where to sleep, just check the ants.

Stopped here on a cycling excursion from Messongi to Lake Korrision. The outer walls are quite well preserved and it was possible to use a bit of imagination to think of how it may have looked many centuries ago. The entrance was cool and shady which was a bonus on the day we travelled!
