Coming from the Tropics, be prepared for a very brutal cold weather during winter, from 30c to
- 26c is not a joke, although the scenery will take your breath away. Since flight from UB to Murun was only operational in March, I took a 700km bus ride to get a kick out of it... what more to say but to marvel the winteric scenery.. My destination is a 150 km from the south shore at Khatgal to the North Khuvsgul Tourist camp across the lake at Khankh. Awesome sight of the frozen lake a short hike on the ridge . The only restaurant is 3 or 4 km away at a Soum center nearby..and the road to the Russian border.. Be prepared to experience a different dimension of Winter Lake Khuvsgul.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Lake Hovsgol National Park, a wonderful experience in one of the most remote and isolated locations in the country.

Horseback riding here gives one the taste of freedom. One can ride for kilometres and kilometres without seeing any others. A wilderness getaway, but certainly on the chilly side.

i believe can't afford winter day here over 3days as i hate cold weather but summer time is ok. esp for some festival take place in jul. i do visit Tsaatan Festival & Naadam festival both of Hovsgol and Murun. all of them are very nice & not hard to arrange it. also do few days trekking to several path by myself(maps me could help you but don't walk too deep/off-path in the forest as a bit dangerous). although i didn't join tour to go further of lake as i hate horse riding but everything is impressive and beautiful esp for good weather time.

The scenery here is gorgeous. I came in January and the hills were snow covered and the lake was frozen over. I walked all over the lake. A herd of wild yak even ran across to say hello.
The town here is quiet. It’s a great place to escape to. I wish I had more time to explore here.

If you drive it is far from UB. Maybe you can take a plane. Road from Moron to Khatgal became nearby Khtatgal a stream. Most (but not all) cars passed. The day after situation was slighly better (July 2019).
Wheater was not so good, so were a little bit disappointed. Ther are many Mongolian people here.

A visit to Lake Hovsgol is highly recommended. The sister lake to Russia's Lake Baikal, Lake Khovsgol is breathtaking.
Take in the scenery and crystal clear water. All year round, Lake Khovsgol has something for everyone.
A visit in winter is equally mesmerising. If you can coincide your trip during the Ice Festival, an experience not to be missed. With a carnival like atmosphere drawing in the locals from far and wide, the experience of first hand Mongolian tradition &culture is yours to partake. Be prepared for sub zero temperatures thou. If winter is not your scene, Lake Khovsgol is enticingly worth a visit any time of the year!

Huge lake surrounded by the Siberian taiga and backed on its W side by rugged mountains. Worth exploring the coastline and the forest paths. Peaceful and beautiful.
