Smith street is a deluge of second hand shops, antiques, food shops, posh restaurants, cafes, bars, and everything else in between. If visiting wind in and out of Smith to see the street art and get a gelato at Messina. The cultural mish mash of Smith with its artsy vibe yet still raw history shines through. Historic tip: the Woolies... More

Smith Street is one of Melbourne’s oldest thoroughfares dating back to the first suburban land subdivision in Melbourne in 1838. Smith Street originally formed part of a winding dirt track that went to Heidelberg. It was later straightened when the area was surveyed. In Victorian times it was one of the busiest and most important shopping centres in all the... More

From charity shops, outlet stores (really good ones, too!!), ethnic restaurants, coffee places, there is a little something for everyone on Smith street.. Plus, all kinds of diverse people. Check it out and don't miss the Keith Haring Mural on Johnston street..

Smith Street has improved over recent years with some interesting restaurants particularly around the Gertrude Street area but it remains a little dowdy and sometimes tacky.

A truly eclectic street, with something for everyone - from the hipsters, to the yuppies, to the teeny boppers and the googly-eyed tourists. Lots of interesting brik and brak shops, as well as top notch (even hatted) restaurants. Worth a googly-eying adventure.

Always something cool happening here - do it by foot from one end to the other. Try Johnston St to Gertrude St via Smith St - pretty ace!

Smith St used to be the poor cousin of Brunswick St but is fast becoming place to be if it hasn't already. The restaurant variety is phenomenal. Places like Easy Tiger, St Crispin, Huxtaburger or Messina for dessert. Don't forget the freeway end with all the factory clothes outlets as well as a few more great eateries like Pavlovs Duck... Having outlet stores in expensive real estate is becoming challenging! High rental and growing population! Traditionally housed with Macpac, Kathmandu, Ice Breakers, Paddi Pallen, Adidas, Champion, ..New Balance, basketball ball shoes and balls shops, .. bicycle shops, Mountain Design gas recently disappeared from the strategic corner location!

Lots of nice cafes, restaurants and bars. Morning/midday good selection of cafes on smith street and around smith street. Afternoons great selection of restaurants and bars on dmith street. Not far from cbd and parallel to other popular streets (brunswick st, lygons st). 😊
