Yi Sun-shin Park is located at the southernmost point of mainland Tongyeong. The seaside cliff location is also historically significant as some important battles took place during the 16th century Japanese Invasions of Korea. A statue of admiral Yi Sun-shin overlooks the park which has great views of the south coast. It’s a good half hour hike around the boardwalk pathways.

Has a statue of the great admiral Yi Sun Shin who was a legendary military genius in defeating Japanese ships in Korean history. Also, some notices are put up at the park but only in Korean. Nice place to go for a walk or to see some great scenery if you're in the area. We drove there and there were many locals taking pictures and enjoying the view, even in winter.

A large, well laid-out park with a small temple and little museum commemorating the naval Battle of Okpo Bay. Part of the Korean effort to repel a Japanese invasion, this battle was reasonably decisive in bringing about the Korean ultimate victory, but is virtually unheard of in the West.

For those that have seen the movie 'The Admiral' Will know about the history of this general. We were very keen to see the turtle ship replica but were surprised to find that the park was closed on Mondays! The sign at the front didn't say they are closed Mondays though. Good to visit for some history.

I went here at night after the sun had set so I cannot speak for the day views. It was peaceful and quiet. A nice place to relax. There are restrooms nearby.

Due to construction, I had to take a long way around, but it was worth it. The park, dedicated to the revered warrior Yi Sun-shin, is gorgeous. The rolling green hills that look out onto the sea is lovely. Come for the huge statue of Sun-shin and stay for the visitas. You can even scramble down and walk along a little stretch of rocky beach. I suggest going in the spring or fall. I went in August and nearly got heatstroke!

The park celebrates the Korean navel commander Yin Sun Shin, it has a huge status of him. The park is beautiful and perfectly maintained. We enjoyed every corner. A taxi dropped us close to park when going back we had to walk through an industrial alley to reach to public road and caught a taxi back, all in all it was a nice evening activity. Sun set would be perfect here especially from the little pavilion on top.

I visited this park on the best of all days - a sunny, very breezy day. All told, I spent about 3 1/2 hours here. Unfortunately, the museum was not open, even though it was a Thursday.
The park's trails are very well laid out and provide plenty of variety. I particularly appreciated the fact that the path I chose combined uphill bests with level bits suitable for catching one's breath, and that the majority of the uphill bits came at the beginning, so that it was possible to walk along simply enjoying the greenery, the sunlight and dappling patterns on the path. There were plenty of spots where overhanging branches provided lots of shade, and the path changed from concrete (on hilly spots which might be muddy or slippery in wet weather if left in a natural state) to gravel to grass and sometimes boardwalk. All of the people I met up with appeared to be Korean, whether they were locals or from elsewhere. Aside from numerous benches, picnic tables, chaise-lounges and gazebos placed in appropriate spots, I got a kick out of the exercise equipment there for people who wanted to work out further. I did attempt a couple of steeper paths but gave up on them because of my weak ankles. On a couple of occasions where I encountered forks in the road, I actually went down one path to see where it went, then returned and took the other fork as well. As I was nearing the parking lot, I saw one woman gallantly proceeding up one of the boardwalks using her walker - kudos to her! I actually returned to the statue of 이순신 (Lee Sun Shin) and checked out another path I hadn't taken before, even venturing down to the beach.
Of course, having such wonderful weather made it possible to enjoy the most out of the fabulous views at various lookout points.
Though I regret not being able to learn more about 이순신, I loved every minute of my time in this park! I will say that I was lucky that my hotel landlord gave me a lift there (using his GPS), otherwise I probably never would have found it! I walked back the way we had come, which was past all sorts of boats...nothing giving any indication that the park was nearby until one reached the end and had to turn the corner. Anyway, for me it was a wonderful way to spend part of my last day in Tongyeong.

If you know history of Korea, then you cannot know about General Yi-Sun Shin. The tall monument standing at the center of the park in Tongyeong can tell you how great he is to Korean people.

This is a must visit location for anyone that enjoys a great view or the history of Admiral Yi. There is a steep hill that you must walk up and I did not see any other alternative to get to the park. However, if you are up for it the view and park are gorgeous.
