The gorge is at its most spectacular when it narrows in several places. There are plenty of spots to hop out and walk around. There are also plenty of vendors of grilled trout and shashlik, although use your own judgement regarding hygiene. The road is very rough in spots but we made it in our Toyota Corolla sedan without any problem. Just go slow and let the SUVs and Jeeps pass.

Gorge is very beautiful. At the entrance there are honey available to buy. Local yurt cafes offer live trout which you can catch in the pond in the lake. Local kids offers horse rides and pictures with eagles. Negotiate the price. At the end of the gorge there is road which goes left above the bridge, if you take it in 12 kms there is beautiful alpine lake surrounded with trees. If you go right the road will take you to Kyrchyn valley - home of Nomad games. Then you may exit using Semenov gorge back to Issyk Kul lake.

You couldn’t take a bad photo here. Beautiful place and nice ambiance. We were here for the World Nomad Games so it was busier than other times I’d assume. I’d love to hike if I can come back next time.

The gorges are disappointing, cafes ... all along the road and too many vehicles, even through the nature is beautiful. Above the gorges you arrive in a wide valley of forest and mostly pastures. The road is rough. At km 17, a last yurt camp caters to tourists but here they are herders too with large flocks. At km 20, unfortunately an army checkpost blocks your way upvalley. You can hike on the easy Southern slopes for solitude in the Alpine flowers and great views.Beware that water is scarse high up.

Locals have their birds (eagles and others) on ropes for you to pay to have your photograph taken with them but the gorge itself is long and you need a good vehicle or marshrutka to venture to the upper parts of it. But the views are worth it and you can enjoy walking back down the road if you wish.

This is a pretty canyon with nice views and wide valleys. It can get crowded on weekends with locals enjoying the river.

Great nature trip. If you even like horse riding you might like it even more. I enjoyed the scenery and walk. If you go to cholpon-ata and northern parts of issyk-kul lake you should pop by there.

The place might be interesting for those who like nature, fast mountain rivers, offroad and bio-products like kumys (fermented horse milk) and mountainous honey. The best way to explore the area in on horse.

In my opinion, this is the most “canonical” gorge in Kyrgyzstan, which gives an idea of the nature and landscapes of the country. I recommend driving into this gorge not directly from the ring road around the lake, but through the neighboring gorge, Semenovskoye. At the junction of two gorges there are excellent views of mountain meadows with herds of sheep...
The beauty of this gorge is the gorgeous views of mountain peaks covered with coniferous forests and a beautiful mountain river. In the middle of the gorge on the river you can have a tasty (albeit expensive) snack of pilaf with flatbreads and shish kebab; it was an amazing lunch.
I would especially like to note that the roads in the gorge are terrible, it’s better not to even go there in a passenger car, the drive will be long and uncomfortable...
