About
Genuinely something completely different! We see influences of the Soviet Union on our travels through Armenia, but it is part of Armenia’s history that is rarely talked about and often ignored. The Soviet Union left its mark with the concrete tower blocks we see in the regional industrialised towns, but did you know that Armenia had a great influence on the Soviet Union. Two remarkable Armenian brothers you have probably never heard of, born in the small village of Sanahin, who changed not just the Soviet Union, but impacted on world history. Please let us introduce you to ANASTAS and ARTEM MIKOYAN and be prepared to be astonished. ANASTAS was one of the longest serving members of the Soviet Politburo, from the early Stalin years through to Brezhnev. His life and career were extraordinary and never fail to surprise our visitors. ARTEM was the creative genius and co-designer of MIG fighter jets. One of our exhibits is a genuine MiG-21 and we're ENGLISH FRIENDLY

We didn't have the chance to visit inside the museum, but the Mig 21 aircraft outside was such a cool thing to see, and to be able to touch!

Anastas Mikoyan survived 50 years in the Soviet Politburo! He outlived Lenin, Stalin, Kruchev and Brezhnev. This is a miracle in itself. His life story warrants much more than my review. He survived the terror of the Stalin purges. During WW2 he was responsible for the transportation of Russian industry to the east in the face of German advances. He became the Foreign Minister of USSR after WW2 and globe trotted around the world returning to his homeland with ideas which brought new and exciting goods and services to the Russian world.
His brother Artem designed and built the world famous MiG airplanes from MiG 3 to MiG 23, including the famous swept wing MiG 15.
This is a fabulous museum and paticularly unpopular with Armenians due to Anastas' involvement in the pre war purges.

Definitely worth a visit. The two Mikoyan brothers were both in different ways much intertwined with Soviet history of which you will get an interesting glimpse. The museum is well maintained with all the information in English as well as Russian, the same goes for the free tour. The staff was very welcoming and took the time to answer all our questions. And besides that, the monastery is near and the view from the village is breathtaking.

Visit to the museum starts with the plane, located near the entrance.
Ticket costs 500 drams (~0,9 euro), this price includes guided tour. Museum itself is quite small, but its location on the way to Sanain monastery makes it must-visit.
Also, very nice that children from nearby school would help museum workers sometimes with aeromodeling or souvenirs.
P. S. Funny notes in the outdoor (and only) lavatory.

Modern building, nice staff, private tour in english, just 500 dram entrance fee, nice souvenirs offered.
I got many infos, it was really a nice time there.
Sadly it is not allowed to take fotos inside (upstairs), but of the car and plane. Easy to find. Entrance is ‚above‘. The big entrance and building downhill is a school.

This museum tells you the story, of not Just 2 brothers, who were a Diplomat and an Air force Engineer! but the times they have been in, Things they've done and created, The story of the town Sanahin, the story of a family who became the most iconic people in the USSR, pictures, documents and family's objects are preserved in the museum!
The young guide 'Zara if i remember correctly, she gave the most detailing and informative stroll around the museum and the history of that times!
if you ever are in town! you should definitely visit it.

Hint: Ground floor is permitted to record or capture pictures, but the second isn't.

Worth a visit. Entry fee is nominal and includes a tour through the history - English speaking staff are very helpful, and can also organize tours in town.

Good small museum where a knowledgable English speaking guide is included. Only 150 m from Sanahin Monastery so easy to include a visit here too. Fantastic views of the valley including Alverdi. Good location for a picnic also.

A very interesting museum full of interesting facts and memorabilia associated with the great man who created the MiG. The friendly tour guide (tour was a bargain) spoke perfect English and was very happy to show us 3 English blokes around the museum. If visiting Sanahin Monastery, it is just a 5 minute walk away. The MiG 21 outside makes for great photos.
