Mu cang chai is a huge area and you need minimum 5 days for visiting. When you check the sightseeing places from trip advisor, it should be progress and new places must be add as Mam xoi and lao chai. It is not a touristic place as Sapa, Pu long. So harder to reach there nearly 6 or 7 hours by ca
r witth many loop on the road. But worth to it.
My first impression was perfect and the places as below,

1-Mam xoi
2-lim mong
3-Lao Chai
4-la pan tan
5-khau pha pass

You should definitely visit from mid september to mid october for catching the golden rice harvest. There is also festival at last week of september. You may also catch beatiful milkyway scenes.

The golden rice city ....

Its possible to get here by public transport from Sapa. In the morning around 8.30 the bus will depart from Sapa town, ask your hotel about this mini bus that will pass through La Pan Tan (the bus will pass through the area, not get into the village) Or, Mu Cang Chai is also not so far away, may take cab from Mu Cang Chai town to this village. From La Pan Tan you can take take night bus to go back to Hanoi, very comfortable.
At La Pan Tan itself, you can just walk around to enjoy the scenic rice terrace, but better still if you can rent a bike, explore the area, a lot of beautiful scenic route within this village in itself. If possible, try get local/ your homestay people to organise this motorbike trip as they knew the best route. Get here before mass tourism gets in.

La Pan Tan is located about 13km from Mu Cang Cai city of Mu Cang Cai district. It is 3km off the main route QL32. There are two main access point to La Pan Tan, one in the north and another towards the south from Nga ba Kim. This is my favourite point. Inside the village a few commune with a few Homestay namely Do Gu Homestay, Hello Mu Cang Cai and few more newer. The scenery in La Pan Tan is awesome with a few beautiful viewpoint which keep on changing according to the season of the year. The scenery in wet season and dry season is totally different. In dry season you will get the yellowish and brownish scene with occasionally burned patches in the raining season you will see the all greens terraces fields and in the also the reflection water terraces fields during the start of the seeding months. it make me come back here every year to view the different colours of the same viewpoint.

The hike to La Pan tan was not too hard on dirt road with very lovel rice terraces everywhere. But La Pan tan was the most beautiful rice terrace with a round top.

I went to visit La Pan Tan in Sep, 2018. The sightseeing on the main road was amazing but La Pan Tan opened more impressive and majestic image of terrace field.
The destination "Mâm sôi" - terrace field shaped a tray attracted a lot of people, you can see it on the main road.
The distance from the car park to the destination is around 3 km, you can choose go with local people by motorbike (50.000 VND/round-trip or climb yourself).

Even without the green rice fields, the scenery was spectacular. A place that does not leave you indifferent, wonderful views that hypnotize you and give you a lot of peace and relaxation.
