A thought provoking museum, made even more interesting by our discussion with Phu, the manager, who was an excellent English speaker .

This informative space is realy interesting and helpful for any purpose of visiting. We had a great understanding about the loss, reselience and recovery stories. No ticket is needed and good facilities such as clean toilet, big parking lot, refreshments. Thank you for endless efforts to make Vietnamese people safe and happy.

20 percent of Vietnam is thought to be contaminated with unexploded ordinance from the US, China, Soviet Union, France, and Japan. Over 40,000 killed and 60,000 injured from 1975 - 2007. Children pick up cluster bombs because they look like balls. Scrap metal sellers and farmers are killed, and people live in fear. Orphanages are full of the victims of Agent Orange, now in the 3rd and 4th generation.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu, who manages the Mine Action Visitor Center took the time to explain all this to me and the work he and his team are doing together with international NGOs in clearing and disposing the ordinance, documenting and mapping incidents, and educating people in Quang Tri province on what they can do to reduce risk and stay safe. And they help the victims of Agent Orange. The goal is for Quang Tri province to be safe by 2025 and then replicate the best practices across Vietnam.

If you are in the DMZ, the Mine Action Visitor Center is a must-visit.

The center provides information on mines and bombs mainly used during the Vietnam War. In many museums in Vietnam, the war between Vietnam and US describes brave Vietnamese soldiers and victory. In this center, you will see exactly the real damages of wars.
The rusted bombs displayed in the nice surrounding area can tell us the peace.

I went here for research purposes, but anyone interested in the history of the American War or war in general should go here to see what's being done regarding the lasting effects of war. Phu was an amazing guide and so passionate about the work RENEW is doing. Thought provoking - if you've visited UXO Lao in Luang Prabang or the Cambodia site in Siem Reap, this will be a great addition. Worth your time and money, not far from Hue.

This place is not big but shows a lot of information, also in english. Although like all places the info shown is very one sided (all about american bombs, not one word about vietnamese) it's worth a visit.

This is what my friend who happens to be from this area said to me while we were here. I felt them too. Usually when I go to a museum or some sort of exhibit, I try not to read all of the descriptions of the pictures or items and just try to get a feel for them. Not here. I was totally enthralled with this place and wanted as much information as possible. I even read some of the books and pamphlets they had. Spent over 2 hours here. These people do very important work. So many people still get hurt from unexploded ordinance and now I feel like I want to help them in some way. Of you can donate money while you're here if you desire, but I left feeling like I wanted to do more. If you enjoy learning something while you travel, this is the place to come to. Oh yeah, right next door is a school or home of some sort for handicapped children. I was told there are over 100 children there. I really wanted to visit and I think they would have arranged it but I thought it was the middle of the day and the children must be busy with school and whatever so it wasn't the right time. Some of the most amazing people on Earth have gathered in this this little corner of the world.

I went to the Mine Action Center to present a plaque for a deceased Marine brother whose family had donated to the Center. The mission of the Center has increased so much since we were first there in 2013 and the expansion programs in Quang Tri Province. My Facebook post read: "At the Mine Action Group in Quang Tri Province, Viet Nam. Presenting a plaque to the Center in memory of Arnie Erickson. Arnie, Rita, and I were there in 2013 with students and others. These folks take the concept of renewing the earth to heart, removing UXO from the Province and educating others, especially children of the dangers of mines and ordinance. Rita's generous donation to the Center in Arnie's memory will truly make a difference to many."

This was an amazing tribute to those affected by land mines that still occupy the Quang Tri province. I learned a lot of important information. I would definitely go back.
