The Chestnut Centre is an escape from the bustle of life, in a secluded natural valley in the Peak National Park. The centre is home to 4 species of otters including the rare Giant Otter, 15 species of owl, tame fallow deer in the deer herd, foxes, pine marten and the elusive, endangered Scottish Wildcat etc. Truly a ‘Hidden Gem in a Hidden Valley”.

Had secretly booked an Otter experience for my daughter's 11th birthday. We all had a great time meeting otters and helping to prepare their food. The day included a T shirt, adoption, certificate and voucher for the well stocked gift shop. We'd be back...if it...More

This fantastic centre is closing at the end of 2017 so do make a trip soon if you can. We went on a drizzly slightly hungover Saturday and it really cleared out the cobwebs. They have at least three kinds of otters. My partner was...More

The Chestnut Centre wonderfully combines the opportunity to see beautiful wildlife with lovely countryside to walk through and marvel at. There is a wide variety of woodland creatures and birds to visit, along with a large free-ranging herd of deer. The enclosures for the animals...More

Lived in the area over 20 years, visit regularly. Otters have lots of character and are great to watch. Staff are very informative at feeding time. The centre is a beautiful place to walk round and you can finish with a brew and cake!

I try and visit every couple of years and it's always a good way to spend at least half a day. If you're lucky you will see the fallow deer as you walk down and then you can wander around a number of enclosures. I...More

Nice walk with lots of animals to see and lots of information. My 4 yr old particularly enjoyed the 'poo trail' identifying animals by sample of poo in bag and a clue!

We stumbled across this place while on a short break in Bakewell. It is a lovely place to see deer, owls and otters. The otters are my favourite I could watch them for ages. A good place to visit for all ages.
