The Chestnut Centre is an escape from the bustle of life, in a secluded natural valley in the Peak National Park. The centre is home to 4 species of otters including the rare Giant Otter, 15 species of owl, tame fallow deer in the deer herd, foxes, pine marten and the elusive, endangered Scottish Wildcat etc. Truly a ‘Hidden Gem in a Hidden Valley”.

Lovely outing, grounds are beautiful. Staff are lovely. The cafe had a great set up for families, and good food choice. Even toys and books available. Sadly we only saw 2 sleeping otters in their indoor sleeping enclosure so that was a shame, but they are wild animals so couldn't really be helped!

This is an amazing place to visit with the family, lots to see, the otter feeding was great. Plenty of places to sit and eat, the only downside is the carpark it's not the biggest and gets busy so would advise to go early on weekends. Please wear sensible shoes as the surface is uneven in places and up and... More

otters and owls and deer! even though it was drizzly and gray and cold, we made the most of this nice outdoor park/-zoo. the variety of owls was extensive and made us look at them a little closer. it's arranged nicely, you do have to walk quite a bit and lots of steps and little bridges, so no strollers. the... This is an amazing place to visit, even in the driving rain you will see otters and owls galore and make sure you see feeding times as these beauties are a joy to watch.

We went here at Christmas with a large group, to see santa. It was a fantastic day out, for young and old. Just one word of warning, it is not suitable for wheelchair users as there are plenty of hills, and anyone who cannot walk far, its also not suitable for you either. On the up side, its a fantastic... More

Loved the Chestnut centre. An interesting collection of birds and animals in a lovely setting. Highlight was the giant otters.

I am always hesitant to visit animal attractions, but was really keen to see a Scottish Wild Cat up close. The giant otters seemed really happy in their large enclosure as did the pine martens. We watched the feeding of otters and the wild cats. All in a beautiful setting with a stream running through the enclosures, squirrels stealing our... More

We can to see Santa in December, the staff were all amazing and informative. We were lucky to see the otters being fed and the woman feeding them answered A LOT of my little boys questions, it made his day! The otters and owls are clearly well cared for, we especially loved the friendly little otter who runs over to... More
