At the doorstep of the historical village of Pamplemousses, within the Beau Plan estate, an old sugar factory houses a cultural, recreational and gourmet experience; it recalls the adventure of sugar which has left a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius.

L'Aventure du Sucre invites you to a superb and interactive tour along the pathways of history and into the heart of Mauritius and its cultures. You will explore the memories of an era that will never stop travelling your mind. Each episode, each anecdote unveils the magic world of sugar. The tour is at the same time amazing, mesmerizing and enriching.

L'Aventure du Sucre keeps the best to last : the tasting of the best of the Mauritian sugar industry, 12 unrefined natural sugars kept for export and having their own colour, texture and taste. You will also taste 11 New Grove rums which is the outcome of a meticulous manufacturing process.

A shaded and charming restaurant greets the visitor with a sophisticated cuisine that brings together the savours of the island. These gourmet temptations are followed by a succession of homemade desserts made with natural sugars

sists of an eco-museum, a boutique and a restaurant.

Opening hours : 9am - 5pm.Seven days a week except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 and 2 January.

This review is really about the staff as due to the circumstances I was not able to go around the musuem. I had just had a bad fall and had hurt my foot, knee and hand which were bleeding. The staff got a first aider who was very good, she attended to my cuts and got ice for my foot.... More

Visited with family. Very well organised, rich historical experience. The tour brings you to the start of Mauritius, with the first sailors to visit the country, the different contributions of the Dutch, French and English, the introduction of sugarcane in Mauritius and the overall process of manufacturing sugar.

I visited this place last week and it was just amazing. It's a place to learn about the history of Mauritius where there is not so many and also about sugar. I really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the price was very good in comparison to what was offered. The visit ended with delicious rhum tasting.... More

We went to the botanical gardens first then came here. It's a little pricey to get in but it includes rum tastings. There are also sugar, honey & jams to taste at the end. It is well equipped for kids with things for them to do along the way. It gave a great overview of how the Europeans initially settled... More

Very interesting place, very close to the botanical garden at Pamplemousse. It's a very nice and interesting place, big, good for everyone. The ticket is 380 rupies but it deserves to be paid. The factory takes around a couple of hours. It's an interesting piece of the local history and economy. Very well kept, everything is explained. We really enjoyed... More

A very nice museum set up inside an old sugar mill. Loads of historical artifacts that one can read through and get a sense of the significance of sugar to Mauritius economy in its glory days. At the end of the museum tour, one is also treated to rum and sugar tasting at the gift shop. We also ate at... More

Hello, thank you for your review. The place is an interpretation center, meaning you can focus interest on the recap only and do the tour in one hour and watch more than 30 videos or spend more time on subjects that matter to you. A must do in Mauritius, this Museum, inside an old Sugar mill, is an amazing place to visit. Staff at the entrance were very good, the displays, world class, value for money was spot on! Not only the history of Sugar in Mauritius, but the history of Mauritius itself, make sure you see it

This was one of the highlights of our visit to the island. The muswim is very informative giving lots of information of the role sugar has played in the history and culture of Mauritius. The displays are top notch and they make great use of the space in an old factory. Being able to walk through and old boiler, past... More

I loved how the Mauritious connection (or dependency I should say) is shown in this park. We've spent a really long time, trying to read all of the information (I couldn't though ;), I don't actually know what time we've entered the park itself but I think it took us 4-5 hours. It's good to get here early, if you... More
