At the doorstep of the historical village of Pamplemousses, within the Beau Plan estate, an old sugar factory houses a cultural, recreational and gourmet experience; it recalls the adventure of sugar which has left a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius.

L'Aventure du Sucre invites you to a superb and interactive tour along the pathways of history and into the heart of Mauritius and its cultures. You will explore the memories of an era that will never stop travelling your mind. Each episode, each anecdote unveils the magic world of sugar. The tour is at the same time amazing, mesmerizing and enriching.

L'Aventure du Sucre keeps the best to last : the tasting of the best of the Mauritian sugar industry, 12 unrefined natural sugars kept for export and having their own colour, texture and taste. You will also taste 9 New Grove rums which is the outcome of a meticulous manufacturing process.

A shaded and charming restaurant greets the visitor with a sophisticated cuisine that brings together the savours of the island. These gourmet temptations are followed by a succession of homemade desserts made with natural sugars

sists of an eco-museum, a boutique and a restaurant.

Opening hours : 9am - 5pm.Seven days a week except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 and 2 January.

This is an indoor attraction. There's a lot of really interesting information ; if you're one to read everything prepare to spend a long time here! I think we were here for around an hour and a half but I have a short attention span and just browsed the odd plaque as I walked past. There are some interactive parts... More

We didn't spend enough time here as we happened across it quite late in the day. However, the sugar museum is very interesting and definitely worth a visit. The rum, sugar and honey tasting is also definitely worth paying for. I think there were 9 types of rum on offer to taste, and even more kinds of sugar. The rum... More

Admission is about $10 USD. We had a rainy day and couldn't do anything outdoors, so we did some research and opted to come here.? My partner and I loved learning about the history of Mauritius and sugar cane! The art exhibit at the end was also a wonderful touch and showcased local artists. We also tried rum at the... More

My husband and I were recommended, by someone living and working in Mauritius, to pay a visit to L'Aventure du Sucre, as he felt it was the best place to learn about the history of Mauritius and something about its charming people. This is exactly correct, it was a very well thought out exhibition and very informative. We would highly... More

Mauritius being a huge producer of sugar it is almost essential that all visitors to Mauritius visit L'Aventure du sucre. It is a huge display set up in a disused sugar factory. You need to allow a minimum of one hour, but could easily spend two, to view all the displays. Well worth a visit.

A well laid out, very informative museum in an old sugar factory. You learn everything about the general history of Mauritius up until our time, and the production of cane sugar. The old machinery is still there so you can follow the different steps in the production and top it up with a tasting of different types of sugars and... More

We visited the sugar museum in March. It was very informative and our 8yr old girls loved it. They enjoyed learning about the role of sugarcane farming and milling in Mauritius' history. At the end of the tour we all enjoyed the free tasting of different types of sugar.

Really nice place to visit. One can easily spend 3-4 hours, going through the Print and Audio-Visual guides for Mauritian History, sugar making process . Also has few activities carved out for kids. At end of walkthrough, one can go for Sugar tasting (12 variants) and Rum tasting (6-8 variants, including aged Rum of 6.10, 12 yrs) A must Visit !

Very informative, but actually too informative, we could not take it all in, lots and lots to read. Rum and sugar tasting underwhelming.

Hello, thank you for your review. Indeed it can take you even several months to read all the information and watch more than 30 videos. The place is not a museum, it is an interpretation center, meaning you can focus interest on the recap only and do the tour in one hour or spend more time on subjects that matter... More
