At the doorstep of the historical village of Pamplemousses, within the Beau Plan estate, an old sugar factory houses a cultural, recreational and gourmet experience; it recalls the adventure of sugar which has left a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius.

L'Aventure du Sucre invites you to a superb and interactive tour along the pathways of history and into the heart of Mauritius and its cultures. You will explore the memories of an era that will never stop travelling your mind. Each episode, each anecdote unveils the magic world of sugar. The tour is at the same time amazing, mesmerizing and enriching.

L'Aventure du Sucre keeps the best to last : the tasting of the best of the Mauritian sugar industry, 12 unrefined natural sugars kept for export and having their own colour, texture and taste. You will also taste 11 New Grove rums which is the outcome of a meticulous manufacturing process.

A shaded and charming restaurant greets the visitor with a sophisticated cuisine that brings together the savours of the island. These gourmet temptations are followed by a succession of homemade desserts made with natural sugars

sists of an eco-museum, a boutique and a restaurant.

Opening hours : 9am - 5pm.Seven days a week except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 and 2 January.

This was a very informative museum with almost too much information to read. We did skip some of the information signs which were in French and English. However it was a good visit and we learned a lot about how sugar was produced in Mauritius over the years. The visit finished in the gift shop where you could taste the... More

Hello, thank you for your review. Indeed it can take you even several months to read all the information and watch more than 30 videos . The place is not a museum, it is an interpretation center, meaning you can focus interest on the recap only and do the tour in one hour or spend more time on subjects that... More

We went on to L'Aventure du Sucre immediately after visiting Pamplemousses. It was just 3 minutes down the road. This is a great place to learn about the history of Mauritius and its Sugar Industry. It was relatively cheap to enter and the guide book is very interesting and helpful. We spent about 1 1/2 hours slowly walking around the... More

Yea although the food is nice n accompanied by nice local vegetables but the waiters aren't proactive n nobody comes to check on the table n u have to keep trying to get their attention. They forget tissues, salt n pepper, spoons to dish out ur curry, n takes ages to give ur change back. Else it's really lovely atmosphere... More

A really interesting place where you can learn a lot about the history of Mauritius. There is a lot of info and I did find myself being selective eventually on what I read but a great place to visit. You can also taste test various sugars and rum at the end.

The visit of The Sugar Museum and Factory was definitely a big and very positive surprise for us. It is FANTASTIC. The management and the staff have put so much work into it. If we would have known better we could easily have planned to stay at least 4 hours. Besides very interesting and detailed information on sugar, the museum... More

Premise provides detailed information of how sugar planting and processing evolved through the years. Great place for relaxing and tasting the rum and sugar cane juice though the admission fee is more on the high side for tourist.

Hello, thank you for your review. The interactive tour of 5000m2 was installed in an old sugar factory where gigantic vintage equipment have been preserved. It tells the fascinating story of the sugar industry in Mauritius. This is an interpretation site with a huge amount of information in various forms in order to satisfy the curiosity of a child or... There are museums that I remember all my life and this is one of them. Housed in a supremely converted sugar mill, L'Aventure du sucre takes you on an exciting journey through Mauritius' history and present, beautifully displayed. You are interested in social history? Its's yours. Economic history? It's yours. History of empires? Slavery? Its's yours. Engineering? It's yours? Food... More
