Beautiful National Park with mountains and several idyllic lakes. The lakes are an easy hike up. Lake Okoto is within easy reach for instance. It has a circular shape and hence the name "Okoto" which means "The eye".

We stayed a couple of nights in Bansko where you can take the lift up the mountain or, if you have a car you can drive up to the first hut. You can also drive to the second hut if you get there before 9:30 in the morning. Form there you can hike up Mount Vihren. It's a difficult climb which is not for the "faint hearted" which is what one of the reviewers wrote. We didn't do that hike, however, we climbed from the Virhen hut to a lake at the end of the red and green hiking path. This is a constant climb of 3 hours but very well worth it.

Pirin Natioanal Park is beautiful. We went there in May and part of the park was still covered with Snow which didn't allow us to explore more but the parts we visited were breathtaking and it´s so peaceful. I highly recommend the park and i will go back for sure.

We did a two day track across the central Pirin . We started from Bezbog hut and hiked to Tevno hut where we stayed overnight. This ptakes about 5 hours with an ascent of 450m and descent of 150m. The country is stunning with lakes, crossing large rocks, snow, etc. I would regard this hike as quite difficult.
There were more people than expected at the hut so we had to sleep in the attic - ok but basic, food was ok. The toilet(2 cubicles is quite a way from the hut and is a squat type affair-not pleasant!
The next day's hike is much easier down a valley with picturesque views but lots cow pads to avoid.
Overall an unforgettable great trek.

We drove a car to go there and it’s the best options. There’s loads of curves but it’s fine! The landscape is breathtaking! They have a restaurant there where you can have food. Always take money instead of card.

If you are a mountain lover and/or a hiker this is a must visit place. A lot of trekking trails - from easy to difficulty and exposure. The paths are well marked, there are nice boards and also good maps.
I would advice stop at the information center in the entrance of the park (if you come from Bansko)... they gave us a map and some very nice informations.
Stop at Baikushev's pine (more than 1300 beautiful pine). It's just a small walk and it's beautiful.

One of our favourite days in Bulgaria was spent hiking in Pirin Park - a UNESCO heritage site. We hiked to the first glacial lake - a gorgeous spot! You need good shoes and a hat. Bulgaria’s oldest tree (1,300 years old) is also in the park; a short walk leads to it. There is a restaurant where you can park your car and continue walking up the road to the first refuge where the real hiking begins; the food at the restaurant was delicious (We had bean soup with garlic bread and strained yogurt with honey, which is a typical Bulgarian dessert), but be aware that the toilet facilities are a hole in the floor of a rough building located behind a hillock a short walk away from the restaurant.

I ski every season in Bansko and my ski instructor suggested that I should return in the summer to climb the mountains. As it happened I had a few days to add to a weekend and so I organised to visit. But I did not expect the exhilarating experience that I have had. I was aware of the lakes and I had seen gentile images of forest tracks. What I got was a hard edged mountaineering challenging to test my endurance to the limit. After a day touring the lakes we then went on a hike like no other; from Bunderitsa Hut we climbed to Kutelo Peak 2. We then went on to Kutelo Peak 1. Then we traversed a knife-edge ridge at Koncheto. This is perilous and not for the faint hearted. The ridge's nick name is Horseback as some people inch along the ridge one leg either side as if on a horse's back. After Koncheto we went back on ourselves to Prenkata and then climbed the north elevation to Vihren Top the hardest route to take. There is link chain to climb large boulders. At Vihren Top we ate a quick lunch. Then we dropped down the south side of the mountain to qualify a time of 5:56 hours. Magnificent. The Pirin National Park is wonderful.
