I visited this garden in the middle of Autumn,so the colors were amazing, all trees had changed color. I could find special wild fruit trees and bushes and as I love trying new things ate a lot of berries, also the Siberian apples were tasty. And the view of the city(Khorog) from this place is amazing.
But don't expect to learn about many new botanical stuff, even the small museum was closed, and it wouldn't take more than an hour to walk around

This is a nice place for a walk with great views and you can see how the leaders of the country waste money on hardly used buildings.

The Botanical garden must have been great sometime in the past but now is totally neglected incl. the buildings except for the presidential mansion. At one spot tall trees form a circle, planted by the first presidents of the region after independence from the Soviet Union. The big plus of the garden is the view to Khorog town.

A small fee charged to enter. Beautiful water lily ponds, rows of colourful roses and arched walkways. Big enclosure housing noisy peacocks. Worth a visit. Greenhouse on site.

The Botanical garden covers 624 hectares 5km east of city at an altitude of 2320 m. It is the second highest botanical garden in the world (the highest is in the Himalayas). It occupies a high terrace between Gunt and Shahdara rivers. Views of the city, the rivers, and the surrounding mountains (some snow-capped) are breath-taking. The garden was originally planted in 1940 (during the Soviet era) by Professor Anatoly Gursky to test the survival rate of various plants in mountain conditions. There are now more than 2300 species of trees and regional plants. Plant signs show scientific names in the Latin alphabet and Tajik names in Cyrillic. Regrettably, maintenance has been let go, so it is more of an arboretum with overgrown flower beds, a few formal beds and a pond with water lilies. There is a wood gazebo that is a nice place to have lunch (bring your own, plus water). The garden has a small museum (open intermittently). The adjacent presidential palace is of interest. The garden is open daily 9-4. The #3 mashrutka will take you part ways there (tell the driver you are going to the Botanical garden), and then walk up hill to the entrance.

This small garden is above the city with great views. The garden itself could use some regular attention as it is some what neglected. Late flowers were still in bloom in mid-September. Identification signs are all in Cyrillic.

The Khorog botanical garden is a relatively small one compared to many we have seen in our travels around the world but it is nice anyway. Really looks more like a garden for the fancy housing next to it, not a lot was in bloom when we were there last year in August but it was nice, peaceful and not a bad spot to have lunch or chill for a bit.

I was fortunate to have visited this garden during autumn when the trees were changing colours - everything was beautiful. The walk around the garden is very pleasant, refreshing and calming. It definitely warrants a visit when you are in Khorog.
