- LukeLondon, United Kingdom17 contributionsBEST SPICE GARDEN IN KUMILYWe met Abraham after dropping by at the Spice Garden, he was very welcoming and made us feel like we were VIPs. He explained in detail the history of the garden, the separate spices, and even gave us some free bananas for the way home. One of the best activities we did whilst in Kumily. Well worth visiting.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 November 2023
- ShantiEckington, United Kingdom2 contributionsDefinitely worth a visit! We stopped at Abraham's Spice Garden on the strength of the reviews (and for a relative who loves Monty Don) and we're so glad we did - a real highlight of our trip. Abraham gave the two of us a tour, and getting to see all the spices growing and taste them fresh off the bushes/trees was amazing. We also picked up some spices at the shop. We noticed some other tourists looking curious who didn't stop as Abraham was already focused on talking to us further into the garden - just worth being aware you might have to wait (though there are other spice gardens very nearby that also look really good). We wondered if it would live up to the hype but it really did.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 March 2024
- EileenChou2 contributionsOur Experience at Abraham's Spice GardenVisiting the Spice Plantation at Abraham's Spice Garden was an absolute must-do experience for us. We were astounded by the wealth of knowledge we gained about nature, flora, and fauna during our tour. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a passionate and inspiring person, whose smile lit up the entire garden. We embarked on a comprehensive tour of Abraham's Spice Garden, where we had the privilege of exploring the treasures of the plantation. Our eyes sparkled with wonder as we witnessed fresh cloves hanging from trees, spotted nutmeg, and observed pepper vines winding their way along the branches. We even had the opportunity to taste freshly harvested turmeric and sample leaves from various trees, including cinnamon and other spices. The abundance of bananas, cocoa beans on the trees, and the presence of elephant lemons added to the enchantment of the experience. Our son delighted in sipping fresh nectar from a lady's slipper orchid, and the entire tour was a sensory delight for us all. Overall, our visit to Abraham's Spice Garden was a truly unforgettable experience—one that we would gladly repeat every day if we could. 😊Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 April 2024
- Anna RavanoMilan, Italy41 contributionsWe loved it!This place is a real hidden paradise for lovers of nature and plants. Mr Abraham is a very interesting man that takes you through his garden, explaining each kind of tree, fruit or peculiar species. Coffee cocoa clove tamarind turmeric and many many other ones to taste or smell. Out of typical tourist routes, it’s really worth it!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 August 2024

Visited Mr Abraham’s Spice Garden this morning and had an enjoyable walk through with Muthu. She was most welcoming and explained the plants and their uses. It was interesting to see the fruits, vegetables and spices growing in their natural habitat. We visited the shop afterwards and bought spices and coffee, there is no hard sell and the prices were good value.
Thank you for an interesting tour.

Since we were in Kumily, we decided to spend an hour exploring one of the spice plantations in the area. We picked Abraham's Spice garden after a Google search and it turned out to be one of our best decisions on the trip. Mr. Abraham is a genial, enthusiastic and knowledgeable person who takes a lot of pride in showing visitors his little forest ( that's the only way I can begin to describe it). We saw cardamom, pepper, cocoa, coffee, nutmeg, cinnamon, bananas, colocassia, gigantic lemons, papayas, jackfruits, unusual flowers, ferns, very old and gigantic mango trees and so much more . Mr Abraham , along the way, crushed leaves and allowed us to taste and smell some of the fragrant spices. We purchased some spices from their in-house shop at very reasonable prices. Mr. Abraham was also generous enough to give me a small tuber of Colocasia to take back home to plant in my garden. This is a highly recommended tour. It is a lot more personal than a similar spice plantation tour I had done in Goa a few years ago, The biggest differentiator is clearly Mr. Abraham himself and his passion for everything he grows.

We already had a tour in some other spice garden but they gave us a 15 min tour and gave no proper explanation but then we heard about abraham and went there just to get spices, however we were so amazed by Abraham's passion and his knowledge about his garden that we had to take a tour again and I would say that it was completely worth it. If you are in thekkady don't miss out on this place. They also charge very genuine prices for the spices that they grow in their garden. All other plantations around kumily and thekkady are very commercialized and charge very high prices.

What a wonderful and interesting experience. The owner is so knowledgable and approachable. I have not learned so much in a single hour as I did on this tour. Some people have complained about the price of INR 100 per person. This is nothing considering the time and energy put into the tour.
We highly recommend this tour to anyone who values learning from someone with vast knowledge and experience of spices.

My family and I recently visited Abraham's Spice Garden and were amazed at all that nature (and Abraham!) has to teach us. The tour, running from Abraham's garden to his vast plantations behind his house, was between 60-90 mins long. Over the course of the tour, Abraham acquainted all of us with countless spices, flowers, plants etc., explaining in clear detail their properties, use, harvest months etc. peppered with anecdotes about the history and life of the plantation. He also encouraged us to taste quite a few of the spices and ask him questions. Pro tip #1: While Abraham may not mention at the beginning of the tour, the fees for the tour is 100 INR per person. Given the labour he invests in each tour, this is well worth your money as you will walk away richer in knowledge than when you entered. Pro tip #2: The plantation has several animals on it. Watch how they interact with Abraham. Must visit!

For the second time, I visited this wonderful family spice garden 😊
We visited with the owner Abraham; he gave every name in English and French, how this plant is growing... picking many leaves, fruits and we can test it !
He spoke with humor 👍
It is amazing how this garden is full of plants, trees, wild bees... some growing in the shadow of the bigger 😊

We were shown round by S Muthu, she was excellent. Fantastic to see a young woman leading a tour. She had a lovely manner, was very informative and knowledgeable. She was able to answer our many questions about the spices and herbs. She picked leaves for us to taste and smell and was very generous with her time. We bought some spices at very reasonable prices.

We took the 1 hr spice garden walking tour late Feb this year. Mr.Abraham is a naturalist who knows a lot about spices, flowers, fruits, vegs, bees et al..For city folks who hardly have exposure to greenery, being in the midst of a special garden like this was truly magical!! That too in God's own country made it more special. Got to taste first hand some spices, nectar direct from flowers which was a first time ! Bought spices which were a produce from his garden. The bananas (one of 23 varieties grown here) he gave us to taste were one of the sweetest we have ever had . Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend the tour.

Tucked alongside the main road, one would miss this place if youa re driving fast unless you are coming to Abrahams Spice garden specifically. Name the spice, name the fruit and name the tree. Its all here. More than the spice garden, its Abrahams enthusiasm that rekindles the natures liking within each of us. Passion fruit, Dragon fruit, JAck fruit, Cardamom, Pepper, different types of lemons, mint ...can keep going on and on. Some of the trees here and since Abrahams Grandfather days. If you have kids, just close your eyes and go. Its just about an 1 hr tour in the garden but you will feel relished for next many days.

We arrived to be greeted by Abraham a wonderful and charming host. Abraham was incredibly knowledgeable, fantastic at explaining everything in a simple but informative way. He took every opportunity to take the fruit and spices from the trees/plants for us to try, cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, rose apples etc, really incredible tastes. What was also impressive was that he conducted our tour in English and French. His garden is an absolute jewel and featured in the British TV channel (BBC’s) Monty Dons ‘Around the World in 80 Gardens’. This has been one of the highlights of our trip.

Hello :) I would like to know how much the tour/visit cost per person ?!
Thank you in advance !

No necessity of booking tickets in advance. Very rarely visitors visit this garden. No drivers are willing to take you there. Insist the driver to take. Very informative. Worth visit.

From the Northumbrian lass. I totally disagree. Our driver actually suggested Abraham's Garden. I went on my hen and I enjoyed the experience, so knowledgable and fascinating. Be prepared to play guess the spice, well worth a visit. If I'm ever back I would go again.

Hi, I would be on a trip to Munnar sooner..
could you please suggest me some good spice garden to show to my family.. thanks..
Written 19 September 2016
Hi,
Apologies for the late reply. Logged in to Tripadvisor after a very long time.
We did not go to any spice garden in Munnar. We went to Abraham's Spice Garden in Thekkady.
But I believe there are some spice gardens in Munnar as well.
Check out cinnamongardens org site.
There are many spice gardens / parks in Thekkady part of Kerala.
You will find Tea plantations all over Munnar.
Enjoy your trip to Kerala.
