Especially during winter; simply beautiful walk around the canyon. Frozen waterfalls, lovely walk trough the forest and information about the history along the way.
At the end of the winter the steep ascends and descends can be very slippery. The 5km route is for people with a healthy physique.

This is a must-do in you are if Lapland/Romanievi area. We visited with a guided tour with Nordic Adventures (I have a separate review), which was very helpful as the trail can be a bit challenging. The place is out of this world, with amazing views and fantastic frozen waterfalls.

A 5 km road back through the magic forest, I couldn't stop myself from photographing every meter of the forest !
And the frozen waterfall was the highlight of the trip!

The kouroma canyon trek is 5 mile trek of 3 hours duration , it is a refreshing trek by the side of brown river , the water looks like champagne, beautiful, sparkling and brown in color, mountains and falls add to the beauty , it is of moderate difficulty

The best part was SILENCE! Just the whisperings of the wind at the top of the trees. Shy chatting with a little bird. Happy creep in the mountain stream. Don't leave any traces or debris on this beautiful nature!

Went to see the frozen waterfalls. The scenery is dramatic. However, going down was extremely slippery and dangerous. Going back required fisical fitness. Not recommended for people who are not in good shape

The frozen waterfalls are the highlight of this place. But walking in this beautiful area was so great. We also had a food break in the way back with hotdogs coffee and cake. It was very good idea to have such a break before the strenuous uphill.
Highly recommended.

It was a crazy idea to go hiking there on -26 Celsius but we did and enjoyed it a lot, though it was the fasted ever hike in my life. We literally had to run to keep our bodies warm. Taking photos was quite a task as well. There were about a dozen of other dedicated winter hikers as well, so we were not alone there. Besides we saw people doing ice climbing at this day.
But freezing temperatures didn’t prevent us from making the full 5km track and visiting all 3 big waterfalls.
The nature there is magic and if you want to see a real winter fairytale it’s a must to do when you are around. Simply stunning views.
It’s just good 1,5 hour drive from Rovaniemi. And if you go check the weather before and come good prepared (proper clothing and shoes, hot drink etc). In winter there is nothing but WC at the parking.

Beautiful, 5-km walk through the forrest, crossing the river to pass three frozen waterfalls (in March at least they’re frozen). Awesome to see, the middle one we loved most due to the beautiful blue glow of the ice. Cool to see there were people climbing the waterfalls. In wintertime, the paths were ok to walk without snowshoes but some parts are quite steep up or down, so one needs to be careful. Take at least 3 hours to do the round-trip. It was a very quiet walk, we only came accross a few people and one excursion-group (who only walked one part of the route and back, but they missed some splendid views). We walked clockwise which seems to be the smart direction. Just a pity the final little bit is uphill :)
