It is an unusual monument to the unusual writer. In the west some call him the Russian George Orwell. His works were banned during the Soviet times. And his monument reflects his rocky lifetime. The monument was erected in 1999, but the high season came during the governor Gordeyev. He is a great admirer of Platonov. I would say it was impossible not to quote a few phrases from Platonov during those days. I walked by the monument at night.
